Is Samsung 193s any good?

I am getting a few of these set up at work and would like to know how good they. My primary concern with LCDs is eye strain as almost every LCD feels like a CRT at 60 Hz refresh rate looking to cook my eyes. The only display that I can use without problems is the Dell 1800FP and just wondering how the 193s compares in this respect.

Thanks

I don't have the same issue in terms of eye strain with LCD monitors, as long as I turn down the brightness and set the contrast correctly.

However, the monitor itself is very unimpressive. We just got some at work, and text quality is poor.

Text quality:

Samsung 950p CRT: 7.5 (VGA)
Samsung 193s LCD: 5.0 (VGA)
Samsung 172T LCD: 9.0 (VGA)
Samsung 172T LCD: 10 (DVI)

BTW, I have tested the 193s with two different ATI cards, and the results are the same, and my co-workers' 193s's are equally bad.

In fact, I have already told them that if they can upgrade this thing to a 191T, I'd pay the cost difference out of my own pocket.

Thanks. I guess this may not be as good as I thought. I should be able to see them in action tonight and see how I like them.

Go for the 191T if you can, it will provide you with a much better picture! As far as eye strain goes, I have jsut the opposite feel to my LCD, it feels 100x better than my CRT ever did!

If you want VGA-out quality, get a NEC.
For Samsung (and most other manufacturers, AFAIK), DVI-D is your best buddy.

VGA on my Samsung 172T is near-perfect. MUCH better than this 193s.

By the way, I've just tried different cables with the 193s (one that was uber-thick and very shielded). Text quality still sucks (but is fine on other monitors with the same VGA card).

Finally saw them in action. Well they are not horrible, but the irritation is still there. I did notice some of the blurry text but it really was only noticeable with bold text so the monitor may not be a fault here. It's still not as food as the 1800FP but it is fine.
Also, anybody with this or similar displays know of the least eye straining settings. I set the color temperature to low and the brightness and contrast about medium.

All in all it was quite good. I don't think I will be buying one myself but they are OK.

Thanks everyone.
