We will know soon. All indications is that AMD is going to continue the trend of the 2nd from the top part being extremely good perf per $

where do you live that gpus cost an arm and a leg?
Brazil. You know: beautiful country, good people and very, very expensive politicians.

A 480x seems just enough to do 1080p gaming without concessions. The 470 in comparison will be adequate, with regular tuning and eye candy reduction.
Many people in this thread said the same (or almost the same). That's my understanding too.

I want to buy a RX 480, but (considering everything) the low TDP of the RX 470 is amazing. It's really tempting.

That would make the 470 a ridiculously good deal considering the 480 is already to top perf/$ card out there.

I was wondering about getting a 1060 or a 480 but then I noticed the RX 470 also looks like a super price/performance deal for the light gaming I do. But number numbers number , wane see numbers ;p

PS Aren't the specifications official now?

We'll have to wait and see the benchmarks but my guess is that it will be an excellent 1080p card at the $150 price point. You won't be able to max out everything in every game, but you'll likely hit 60 fps at 1080p with mostly high settings.

For most people that's more than adequate.

So at worst this thing will have 280x performance right? I can say from experience that is great for 1080p but not Ultra if you get my drift.

The RX 480 would be great, and the (hypothetical?) RX 485 would be even better.

But the truth is: anything between "High" and "Very high" (i.e., below "Ultra") would be enough for me.

The flop is not on the table yet, so it's time to exercise the patience. :\

Radeon RX 470 was described as "an ideal card for 1080p gaming".

I understand that this "ideal card" will not be able to max all the games out there, even using a 1080@60Hz monitor. And I'm OK with that.

But will the RX 470 be able to run most of the big games at very high settings at least? What do you think?

It should be ok (~60fps) for High settings in the vast majority of games, RX 470 should be a little faster (10-15% ??) than R9 380X.

Man i wish they'd launch the card already.Getting too impatient now.Looking at $250 in my country after taxes and import duties.Still cheaper than R9 380 4gb which is close to $300.

That's quite acceptable for me!

I'm also getting a bit impatient, specially because I want to give my HD 7850 to my wife. :\

Then just get a AIB 480 in a few days and be done with it. If you want it to run at lower wattage, undervolt it and save a bunch immediately that way. You can powertune at a lower percent. Or WattMan as they call it now I guess

for 1080 dx12 gaming you will be in heaven. Well, unless they redefine max settings to fit dx12 capabilities. As things are, for dx12, it should be faster than 970. for dx11 it should be significantly faster than 380x even if just because of clock speeds. of course wait for benchmarks, but it looks like a really good deal. $240 is already much better value than the 380x. The only reason that survives at that price is lack of 470.

470 specs has it with around 11% less shaders than 480.

Well, at least for me it's not an easy decision; I must take in account many factors. For instance, the actual prices in my country.

The RX 480 is obviously more future-proof. However, the RX 470 seems to be, in comparison, a wonder. And an AIB version of the RX 470 with 8GB for $179 would be fantastic.

My wife can wait a bit more, and so do I...
