Clearly the world is ending and they needed her expertise. Also need her around after the apocalypse to preserve brilliant minds. Everyone knows this.

She's smart and is knowledgeable in many fields. I wouldn't make the argument that she's the smartest just because her knowledge is loudest, though.
 
I thought she quit after Trident said he doesn't think she's smart. I mean, once you get pawned like that, what else can you do?
