Is Real Player unreliable for anyone else?

I have asked everyone on ICQ about this but no one uses Real Player. A long time ago it used to take over your computer and it was full of spam but it is not like that anymore so it is safe it install if you need it. I use it to listen to NPR and Paul Harvey. Paul Harvey has two segments a day and many time I am unable to hear audio in the afternoon segment. This was the problem too on my last Windows so I am wondering if it really is a problem on their side. The streem seems to be working but I can't hear any audio. These streams that do not seem to work are consistant, I can load them up 10 times and there is no audio any of the times and streams that do work will work all ten times. Today (Wed) I can't hear audio on either of the editions and yesterday I can't hear anything for their afternoon but their morning edition works just fine. Can anyone who has Real Player tell me if they get similar results?

I believe Real Player won the award last year as worst piece of software EVAR!

It's a big POS. Takes like 10 or 15 minuts to install and configure so that it doesn't bother you with spam constantly and steal your file associations along with all sorts of invasive advertisments. It also likes to freeze video in the middle of it and keep the sound going, and you have to restard the program to remedy it.

I believe the general consensus is that RealPlayer is the worst thing that has ever existed.

People seem to hate it more than they hate the entire range of Microsoft products combined.

I certainly do.

I'm telling you, the free player is just fine. When it sets up, it asks you which files you want to associate with it and if you deselect the ones you don't want (everything but ra), you will never have a problem with it. The only thing that it does is pop up an add from the tool bar sometimes when you close the player. It is nothing that should bother anyone, I find a single web page popup more annoying than this once a day gain style popup.

Anyway, can anyone confirm whether or not they get any audio on this (Paul Harvey's Wed afternoon editiion) stream? I know at least someone has to have it installed besides me.

I use the free version. Use the custom install to prevent it from installing junk. I use it only for openning real media files, and other than that I use the Windows Media Player.

Isn't a better question this:
Is Real Player reliable for anyone?

It has got to be the most bug ridden piece of software I've ever seen. It is nearly impossible to uninstall, causes frequent spam, frequent crashing, and just pops up at the most annoying times.
