Is Radeon 9600 XT good enough to play sport games like FIFA 2005, NBA Live, PES, etc.. or should I buy better?!

Hi,

I intend to buy a new PC and was thinking about getting the Sapphire 9600 XT Ultimate for the simple reason that it is very silent cause it doesn't need a fan apparently, while all higher cards do need a fan.

I would mainly like to play sport games like FIFA 2005, NBA Live, Pro Evolution Soccer, etc.. so I was wondering if a 9600 XT is powerfull enough to play those games with all graphical options on and still get a fluid framerate (what do people consider fluid framerate by the way, 60fps??) or will I need a better card then?! I believe NBA Live has alot of graphical options so I was wondering if a 9600 XT is still good enough for it and those other popular sport games?!

Anybody who has or had a Radeon 9600 XT and can tell from experience?! Please give as much detailed info as possible! Thanks in advance for all good feedback!!

I think the card you mentioned is the fastest "Silent" video card on the market, I've also heard of a silent 6800 NU, I don't know where you can find it, though. I have no personal experience with the 9600 XT, but I can say it will most probably run the games you mentioned with good framerates.

You are set dude. If you have any problems with these games it won't be a vid card problem. I have a 9600xt and it runs Doom 3 just fine so I'd guess those would be a cakewalk for it.

Isn't it so that games like NBA Live (anybody plays this?) has lots of graphics options that with all ON demand a higher card or would the 9600 XT still be enough? Nobody who plays those sport games, as I thought these were very popular?

Also, how much fps do most people consider as "smooth, fluid" framerate? Also, is it true that the fps shouldn't be the same or higher then your monitor's refresh rate as this can give certain problems?

The 9600XT is a very good VC for your purposes. Don't worry about the framerates in your sports games. They will run smoothly. Besides framerates and monitor refresh rates have nothing to do with each other. People usually consider 35-40fps as normal or playable. It depends on how sensitive your eyes are, though. Most humans can't tell the difference after more than 30fps. Some people, though, are more sensitive. For instance a movie that you watch on the TV is running at only 24fps. Do you see it choppy? It's a little bit different in pc gaming and 24fps won't seem playable to you. I hope that helped you.
