Is PNY a good brand for graphics card?

My PNY 6800 GT has been great. I got it for $301 shipped back in July. (CompUSA Price mistake) Runs 425/1150 with an NV5 no problem.

For the folks spreading mis-information about the warrenty... It is no longer life time. It is now a 3 year warrenty with registration on their website. Which is actaully better than most of the manufacterer's I have heard listed with the exception of BFG. Either way do many of the folks here even keep thier warrenties anyways? Once you OC or remove the HSF it is null and void anyways.

i've been through like four pny GT's

none had problems

they were just reference cards...none of the wanabe copper coolers that suck arse for cooling...like the bfg's

and maybe the leadteks

I have a PNY 6800 from the Xmas sale. A lot of people had defective cards where a capacitor was not soldered on properly, and fell off of the card. Also the alalog 2D quality was very bad, as the text was blurry in 1024 and higher resolution. I would not buy PNY again.

I had a PNY Geforce 4 MX420 that worked for years with no problem, in fact it's in a computer I just sold to someone, still with no problems.

I have owned a PNY FX5200, and FX5700u, both served me flawlessly, and I have no reason not to buy from PNY again. This is my honest opinion, having used each of the 2 cards for a period of no less than a year.

I also own a PNY GeForce 2mx that Ive had for about 5 years. Its still working in one of my older computers that gets used everyday. From searching the forums, I believe that more people have had issues with PNY's 6xxx series than the older models.

I have owned several PNY's over the last 5 to 6 years.
GeForce2 MX400
GeForce4 MX420
GF4Ti4600
GFFX5600U rev.2
GFFX5900nu
GeForce6800GT

The only problem I have had was with the MX400 and that was just a cooling fan failure.
PNY promptly sent a replacement. The card is still humming along in my server running 24/7.

So, PNY is fine.

I canceled my PNY 6800gt after reading this thread, and ordered a leadtek. The leadtek just came in and was defective! It had yellow checkerboarding and would BSOD after installing the drivers. Sometimes you just can't win. Hopefully the RMA won't take too long.

You could have ordered from any company and this still has a possibility of happening.
I'm sure there are tons of people out there who are perfectly happy with their XFX,PNY cards. And to think, the PNY you cancelled could have been in your box right now functioning perfectly. tsk tsk. shame on you for listening to the hype in here. 😀

That's rather ironic, but some rotten luck nonetheless. I've never had a DOA video card yet over the course of 5-6 years.

Sorry to hear 🙁

The reason people have PNY cards are because sometimes they are price 20-30 bucks cheaper. Crappy customer service and low quality components are the reason for the cheapness, people don't understand that.

I've also seen a lot of people with malfunctioning PNY cards and then have to deal with really crappy customer service.

Not to mention PNY were one of the first three that came out with them in quantity last year. BFG/eVGA/ and PNY were the big three if I can remember correctly.

Just got my RMA leadtek 6800gt from newegg. Overall I'm impressed with the card now that it works. I've never been able to run games like this, ever. Now I know what AA and AF look like. 🙂

Man don't get too used to 'em, because once you've had em, you never want to go back. Especially AA. I can't live without it now.

I agree. High extra details become a crack addiction. Now you're stuck having to throw vast ammounts of money into your computer each year to be able to hold that level you're going to be craving 😛
