Is pixel a square?

When the Width of a monitor divided by its hight, the result is not a whole number. For example, 800/600=1.333. That's why I ask.

your monitor is in a 4:3 ratio (1.333), just like the TV's out there (i.e. 4:3 = regular, 16:9 = widescreen).

no, i believe it is taller than it is wide, but they are the same distance to the one beside than to the one above...

this is because the grill is thicker on the side than the top.


is it me or did that make no sense?

huh?

a pixel is a dot that is 1 color on the monitor. a bunch of pixels make up the image you see now. i'm pretty sure a pixel is circular... you might wanna check out tomshardware.com (sorry Anand) but i know they had a few good monitor comparisons where they described the technology behind Trinitron and CRT monitors

Edit: maybe i'm wrong.. i didn't actually read through those guides, just looked at the reviews of the monitors

if a pixel is a square that u can adjust with the resolution u choose and by the deflection of the electron beam. just change the way the picture fits on the screen (so that it doesnt fit) and the pixel is not square anymore. anyway ideally it is square

on a tft on the otherhand a pixel has basically always the same shape (if u use the native resolution) if u use half the res u have 4 pixels grouped together -which gives a square again. bit if u say: have a 1024-768 screen and u use 800x600 u will have some odd number of physical pixels making up one image pixel
