Not as much since they split. Still very good though. Roger Waters has done some work on his own.

Love the music? Watch the movie, The Wall. :)

Hey Triumph, does your handle refer to the band?

No, gunf1ghter, you don't have to say groovy or whatever, just say they are good if you like their music. "Shiznit" is not a word and sounds stupid, along with most other slang, such as "my bad", used by someone in this thread; "my bad" is a sentence fragment and shows that the person using the word has a very weak command of the English language.

Where do these stupid words and phrases come from, anyway? I didn't like the ones people were using when I was a teenager and I don't like the ones people are using now, so don't mistake what I'm saying as a bias against current slang. I don't like any slang.

I see a trend that explains why some may not appreciate the 'Floyd (as well as other truly classic popular & rock music) --> listening to the radio. Folks, radio is dead. It died years ago with the advent of "playlists". Most DJ's have little to no control over what they play, their stations have playlists they must follow, and usually these lists are very limited in scope. So while you might hear the occassional 'Floyd, Stones, 'Zep, etc., song, it's usually always the same song, or maybe the same two at most.

<< Can someone reccommend some Pink floyd songs AND the best CD's. >>

Well, if you have nothing yet, I would recommend starting with what is known as "The Sonic Trilogy" which are the albums Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, and Wish You Were Here. You'll also want to get Animals and The Wall. Those are mostly essential collection pieces. After that you might want to regress to some of their earlier stuff, but a lot of it is a bit esoteric unless you become a hard core fan. I can't really recommend their last official albums, such as Works or The Final Cut. The two studio albums post-Roger Waters leaving the band are OK, with The Division Bell being the best probably, Momentary Lapse of Reason is fair. I'd also recommend David Gilmour's solo albums, and Roger Water's solo albums The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking, Radio Kaos, possibly Amused to Death, and In the Flesh. Roger toured in 1999 & 2000, and in all honesty, his shows were far better than Pink Floyd's last two tours (though they weren't bad either). But Roger's shows were sheer brilliance, some of the best stuff I've seen in 30+ years of concerts (incl. many, many Pink Floyd shows, even the very limited The Wall tour).

Publius Enigma ... ;)

Didn't read through the whole thread yet, but I disagree with anybody who says teens nowdays don't know who pink floyd is, or don't appreciate their music. Heck, OMSI(Oregon Musem of Science and Industry) has a laser light show on the weekends based on The Wall. What kind of people do you think you find there? You figure it out.. ;)

I never could stand them and I grew up with them right from the Piper days. Found and find them incredibly self indulgent and discordant.

To put it simply, Floyd was the best band of the 20th century, and will continue to rule for a long time to come.

I bet The Beatles won't lose much sleep over this pronouncement.

Reviewing my previous posts I just thought I should clarify that I'm not attacking gunf1ghter or anyone else personally. I just don't like slang.

Alpha-

you should realize that some of the words that are considered and used as proper English were in fact slang words 1 or 2 centuries ago.

slang that survives and thrives often makes it's way into the Oxford English dictionary.... it's just the NATURAL evolution of a language.

stupid slang (99% of gangster type slang) will never make it into the common vernacular... certain popular terms for things might.

I'm 17 ... I started listen to Pink Floyd when I was 15. Today, it's my favorite band. My brothers both like PF, and they started listening when they were 10 and 13 years old. This kind of music never goes away.

Impact55: If you like to get a glimpse of Pink Floyd's songs, get the P.U.L.S.E. live album. It has the bands best songs, including all songs from Dark Side of the Moon, and some newer ones. I might get flamed for this, mainly because this is a post-Waters record. Personally, I like Gilmour better than Waters.I still like the old PF, but Gilmour gives a much mature voice to the songs, but like I said, this is my opinion. Noneoftheless, with this album, you will be familiar to their music. :)

Publius Enigma ............ I'm still waiting for their next album to see if the enigma will be solved ... :D

Yes, gunf1ghter, I understand the evolution of language, but that still doesn't mean I like hearing slang. Plus, "shiznit" is gangster/rap slang, so hopefully that will not survive.

I believe that if there's a word that already exists, use the word instead of creating a new one.

As long as college kids get stoned Pink Floyd will be popular.
Expect them to be popular for our lifetime at least.
