<< I can't recall ever really hearing them mentioned on MTV or VH1 or similar music type shows/channels. >>

They play "The Wall" on VH1 every once in a while

The reason you don't seem them on MTV is because they're considered "old" by kids of today (a la Deeko) and MTV doesn't usually play old stuff.

I think Pink Floyd rocks. They were so so so so "ahead of their time". I will never get tired of DSOTM... listening to it with good headphones makes it even better. I hope Pink Floyd tours again... I never got to see them when they toured in the mid-nineties.

I'm sorry, I only represent 99% of the teen population on this one, my bad :)

<< No, teens todays still know who they are, we just think they suck >>

I was a teen up until last year, and they're one of my favorite bands...I wasn't aware that your opinion sets the foundation for musical tastes for teenagers everywhere. I also wasn't aware that pre-pubescent screaming boys and girls qualify as certification for a band's musical prowess. As far as Pink Floyd sucking, the 500 musical artists and people in the music industry who voted in VH1's Top 100 musical artists/bands of all time selected Pink Floyd as number 19.

Somehow I doubt that Deeko has ever even heard a Pink Floyd song. Do yourself a favor and listen to Dark Side of the Moon, considered by many to be one of the greatest albums ever produced.

<< I'm sorry, I only represent 99% of the teen population on this one, my bad >>

By that definition, I guess Beethoven, Mozart, and Stravinsky suck as well.

I still like the same tunes today that I've always liked. Some of the same artists I liked 30 years ago still write, play and tour. Deeko will like something different next month and something else the next. I can't relate to that. Kinda sad I guess...

Guess what, you're wrong, I DO listen to different types of music, I just don't like it....and the teen music preference HERE is nowhere near that of the general teen population. Is it the same as mine? No. But I do DJ, so I know what high school kids want, and Pink Floyd is NOT it.

You're right...I can't even imagine myself listening to these songs 5 or 10 years from now. I don't see what's so sad about that.

Well duh, I wouldn't expect Pink Floyd to be played at a club, just like I wouldn't expect to hear oldies rock, folk, or Verdi. But I think you need to realize that there is more music out there than dance/pop. It would be pretty damn depressing if we all listened to the same genre of music.

I shall quote myself

<< I DO listen to different types of music, I just don't like it >>

And I do know what people LIKE, not just what they want to dance to.

Deeko,

<< But I do DJ, so I know what high school kids want, and Pink Floyd is NOT it. >>

WRONG. You know what music the partygoers like. You have no clue what everyone else likes to listen to.

P.S. Do you think that quote you have by 98 degrees is supposed to be meaningful or something?

I'm not disputing that teenagers listen to pop music...that has always been and always will be the musical preferences of young people (hence the word "popular" music). But I think it's amazing that quite a few people in their teens and twenties (based on my experience of people's musical tastes in high school and college) still listen to bands such as Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix, 30-35 years after these recordings were made, in addition to listening to contemporary music.

Im a 16 y.o. Pink Floyd fan. I must say that unfortunatly Diko is correct few people my age apreciate them. Their music tastes fail to look beond Eminem or the latest trendy techno beat from Europe.

Does that make the band less timeless? No it's their loss. I know i personally converted 3 of my freinds just by getting to watch The Wall once.

The fact is that modern music has no skill atached to it and thats what realy kills me. I may listen to it and enjoy some of it but it does not have an effect on me. It does not do anything to my mood, or make me ponder the world, or simply analyze the lyrics. Listen to some of these songs, if they dont happen to have anything to do with love then for the most part, the lyrics are just rhymes randomy thrown out of s dictianary to sound nice!

Oh and dont think that im some hippie that sits all day listening to clssic rock. It's jsut that O find it to be far more meaningfull and when im looking for an "intelegent" listening expreience, i do :)

Oh yea, they are still the sh*t,if you are living in the 70's and 80's and like to trip on acid daily.

J/K,they were alright for the slow ass music that they were. I actually went to see them with my mother when I was 12,which should give you an idea of how popular they are at this time. I prefer music with a bit more of a heartbeat, but to each their own.

To answer your question,NO,they are not the shiznit.

Yes they were mentioned on VH1. World record holders-Dark Side of The Moon holds the world record for the longest unbroken time on the pop charts. Upteen years and counting! Every year they gain new fans and thier album sells another million copies. Most music credits concider their sound emortal. So yes Pink Floyd still rocks.

You said it Midnight Rambler, I'm shocked!

I'll tell you what's sad there Deeko, is that everything you enjoy now is fleeting. No quality. Nothing lasting. Flash in the pan kind of experience, ya know? Just like cotton candy instead of real meat that satisfies your music hunger for decades!

Yes, Pink Floyd is still great, but they aren't "the shiznit", since that phrase would be used to refer to some current flash-in-the-pan singer or group that some people might like. Using "the shiznit" in the same sentence as Pink Floyd is an insult to Pink Floyd.

lighten up... it's an expression used often in common vernacular ... do I have to call them "groovy" or use another old school term for "awesome" to make you happy?

I am 18, and Pink Floyd might be my favorite bands (depending on the mood I am in). They are really talented. Many people at my high-school know who they are, and like them alot. I am on the school newspaper, and in the room where we put it together we are allowed to play music on the stereo. Pink Floyd has been played many times.

Don't know where Dekko is getting his statistics/information, or where he goes to school. He would represent a minority in my school.

hmm... my high school must be the sole exception to every single example.

A TON of kids love classic rock in my grade in High School. And the people that do include everyone - hell most of the "popular" kids love classic rock. Ask who Pink Floyd is to the average kid in my grade you would get a "kick ass band" response, instead of "huh?".

If I never heard another PF song, it would be too soon. I am SOOOO tired of the ones they play on the radio.. I simply have been listening to rock radio soooo long, I'm fed up. The quickest way to get me to change the channel or pop in a CD is to hear either band come on the radio . They aren't horrible by any means, and they are brilliant musicians, I just don't care to hear them anymore.

That and Led Zeppelin..

Yep. I'm just plain sick of 'em.
I still love the old Van Halen, and Ozzy, (well, some of Ozzy's songs are suck)
Mid 80's rock-n-roll..

Who am I?

34yo semi-professional, make a good living, and my favorite band is Queensryche. Married, 4 kids, 6 cats, 1 dog, 5 fish and 3 '86-'87 Buicks.. :D :D

I know enough people dude. The most popular high school music is rap. No, I don't think the quote is meaningful, I like the song :Q

'Bout time someone realized that I'm right :)

<< Don't know where Dekko is getting his statistics/information, or where he goes to school. He would represent a minority in my school. >>

Have you ever listened to mainstream radio? Mainstream radio is generally what high school kids listen to. I don't hear much pink floyd on mainstream radio, do you?

<< hmm... my high school must be the sole exception to every single example >>

You are correct.

Trust me guys, just because your friends like this kind of stuff, does not mean everyone does. That is a mistake alot of people make when determining how popular something is. I garuntee you, the average high school student doesn't listen to pink floyd. I'm not saying they are bad. I'm saying people don't listen to them anymore(in high school).

Pink Floyd is still the shiznit. Whenever you have artists reach such a level of brillance, no matter if its painting, film or music, they become timeless in a sense...

I went to a highschool for engeeneers so everyone had an IQ of at least 110 and a SAT of at least 1200

Our highschool radio station played before school after school and during lunch tutorial and every 7 minute brake. They experimented with country, classical, and even latino (we lived about 100 yards from the border) but it was mainly an alternative rock house.

Korn and NIN where schools favs. Pop was a good way to get beat up!
