is pcanywhere secure?

I would avoid it, there are other potentially better solutions out there. XP and up already come with RDP and if you don't have XP you can just install something like UltraVNC and tunnel it through ssh or stunnel for a secure connection.
 
use encryption and something other than the default port... I think most of the remoting software is the same.... I've used PCA, Remote Admin, VNC, Remote Desktop, Desktop OnCall, etc... the first two are what I stick with.
