Is PC3200 Enough When OCing A64?

Hi,
Will my Corsair XMS3200 Low Latency 512Mb dimms be good enough for doing some overclocking on the Athlon 64 plattform or will I need to get PC3500 memory?
I am most interested in hitting 2.2GHz (220MHz FSB).

I'm hitting 220FSB with PC3200, but the timings aren't great. 3-3-3-14. I haven't messed around with it, and left it at default. I may be able to get better timings, but I haven't had much of a chance to fool around.

Well I can do it easy, but 3d doesn;t run at that speed, and I think it is due to no AGP lock. But you may or may not make it with your memory. The high latency setting you may have to use may outweigh the speed. The Athlon64 loves fast tight memory for its integrated controller. PC3500 CAS2 works great ! Now when a new bios comes out with AGP lock (I wish) I will be set, and try to go higher !!

a cas 3? well, maybe its better to move on to PC3500

i changed the timings to 2.5-3-3-7 and it seems to run Prime95 fine at 2.6v. I haven't tried any gamings, as I like to run Prime95 for 48+ hours before certifying that it's stable, so I don't know if it will run OK, as I also do not have an AGP lock.

I'm happy to see those timings are evidently working out for you I do think 48hrs of P95TT is a bit extreme unless you do serious work on the system, but then again overclocking on a workstation that handles important tasks isn't a great idea.

a cas 3? well, maybe its better to move on to PC3500

Doesn't appear it makes much difference for A64

Corsair XMS? Not sure I doubt 1:1 will work with that as shown by many sites that were doing review using Corsair and then complaining about CPU or motherboard.
