Is PC2100 (2-2-2) DDR SDRAM still good for anything? Or are all the new chipsets moving on to PC2700?

I'm about 6 months behind on tech news, practically a life time.

I'm getting really really fed up with my computer. I want a new motherboard. But I have 512MB of PC2100 2-2-2 DDR...and I'd like to keep using that if possible.

What do the latest chipsets use?
Preferably Pentium4 chipsets.

Heck I didn't even know the Thouroghbred was out until yesterday

Well my cas2 2.5 pc2100 is currently running a 1600xp @166mhz fsb, as long as you run the timing 'by speed' you shouldnt have any problems at pc2700 speeds.

Mine is cas 2.5 PC2100 or cas 2 PC1600 I think. But it runs just fine at 2-2-2 at 133 (pc2100)

PC2100 is still perfectly fine for Athlons. Since the FSB on the Athlon is 133mhz DDR, anything over PC2100 is pure overkill(and in some cases, slower due to being async). As for the P4, well, faster is better. For the time being, it's ok with Intel chipsets since there's only 1(i845G?) that supports PC2700, but VIA is has a PC2700 chipset(The PX333) and will have a PC3200 real soon. Then of course, there are the dual channel chipsets; my gut feeling is they'll go with a pair of PC2100 to match the FSB of the P4, and anything over that will be overkill such as with the Athlon.

Sounds similar to mine, its 2.5 crucial pc2100, capable of cas2 upto 150mhz or cas2.5 166mhz+.

Thanks for the Tip.

So, when will we see these Dual Channel DDR Intel chipsets? Anyone know roughly?

Yeah Noriaki, where have you been? There was a drought of Noriaki posts sometime ago, I was even going to ask around to know what happened ...

My crucial PC2100 Cas 2.5 has no problem running at 170 FSB with Cas2 and aggressive timings... will hit 190 at Cas 2.5 and less agressive timings. (Which ends up faster then 170 Cas2.)

I went away for a while. I was busy with a bunch of other things. I lurked abit and posted a few times. But since August of last year, I've posted very little.

I'm back now though :) I had my triumphant return post in OT a while back.

It's nice to know that someone actually noticed I was gone ;)

But I'm back now :D
