We need to start this over, b/c this has turned into a shitshow of conflicting information...

There is a big disconnect here.
I do not have anything like what is in the video.
There is no clamp whatsoever.

My 4 screws are directly on the heat sink and screw directly into the MB.
THAT'S IT. What is the name of this configuration? Intel 775? AM3?

Here is a picture of my heatsink/fan combo.

Neither. I would call it bolt-through, or through-hole mounting.

There's probably a backplate behind the mobo.

775 and AM3 are CPU sockets, for Intel Core2Duo/Quad, and AMD Athlon II / Phenom II respectively.
 
Even though 775 and AM3 are different sockets, many heatsinks fit both.

The interesting part about yours is that it bolts directly to the board, as you have noticed. There is no base.

This means that you are not going to be able to replace it without removing the board, because the bracket under the board will likely just fall off when you remove the screws from the existing hsf unit.

So, you can either get the AMD AM3 base and a cooler like a TX3, or you can just get a cooler like my 212 EVO, which is rated to fit your socket. From what I can see, you can't mount a TX3 without that base.

I am blown away that this is such a obscure and polarizing discussion.
There were like a trillion squillion Dells made, right?

Backplate must be glued into place.
I already removed the heatsink to clean off the dust.
I was the able to reinstall it with no issues.

#2 looks like the fan is mounted 90* in the wrong direction.
So, forget the TX3. It does not work with my config.
I need the fan to blow up and out.

I just ordered #1. Logisys DEEPCOOL Alpha 200ST
I have no idea why LTC said it will not fit my MB.
He must think I have the "buckle" clips. I have 4 screws.

Well, it's some proprietary Dell mount. Half AMD and half Intel.

Good luck with it.

Never heard of such a thing.

Can this thing be installed sideways?
My desktop tower has the MB and CPU going on a vertical stand up plane.


Ebay seller sent me the wrong damn item.
So, it will be another week until I know if this thing works.

I'm glad this fit and worked.

PC stopped blue screens after I blew out the heat sink dust,
but it's nice to drop CPU temps for $25.
