if I send you a request for money from 'service@paypal.com' will you send me some?

EDIT: some spyware can automatically redirect you to another site even if you type the URL in directly. Keep your machine clean.

did the phishy (see what i did there?) email look something like this?

(dont' know who's address that is in the shipping info)
It could have, I don't know. As I said the email was only a picture and the entire thing did not display. Thus, I saw nothing but a placeholder in the email. Interesting though that it seems like my email was from the same source - Luxury Watches Inc. and for that exact same amount. So is there someway that just from viewing that email, when I went to PP's site directly, I got redirected to another site?

This is true, but wouldn't I still physically see the URL change? For example, once I got redirected, it would no longer say "https://www.paypal.com/us/," right?

sounds like a fake site - paypal looked the same today as it has for the past several months
No, the site didn't look different, it looked like how it does when sites get messed up sometimes - like when some of the fonts just change to Times New Roman for no apparent reason. I'm sure you know what I mean.

no. i think that since you punched in the paypal address yourself without clicking the link in th email, you should be in the clear. the different fonts/broken security lock may be due to the site not being fully loaded. i think a refresh would have fixed it. in any case, i think if you want to be absolutely certain with some peace of mind, just change your password as suggested (or did you do that already?).
