Text is all wacky and plain looking, and where did the golden lock go in the bottom right of the screen indicating you're on a secure site?

I logged in during that small time interval the padlock was not there. Is this bad?
And what about this email I got?
Yes it did. It marked it as "spam" and gave me a warning that it may not be from who it claims to be. But how would it know that? The from address is service@paypal.com. And, the email is simply a picture, which is not showing and is not showable, even if you right-click it and hit Show Picture.Originally posted by: spherrod

the email sounds like a phising attempt - did Google mark it as such at the top?

And all it says it that I sent a payment to a company. So...what info would they be trying to get from me with that kind of email?
And I'm worried that I logged in when the padlock was NOT PRESENT on PP's website.
No I certainly did not! The email is ONLY a picture which is not displaying, nothing else at all. I wondered what was going on, so I went to PP's website myself, which must've been experiencing a problem because for a BRIEF time there was no padlock on the main page and the text was weird. Then it fixed itself. But I DID log in during that time when there was no padlock. But I saw no suspicious activity.Originally posted by: spherrod

Was there a link in this e-mail? Usually there is a link (eg. to Paypal) but will actually go to another site. If Google marked it as a phising mail then that's a good sign it's not legit. Delete all such mails and only ever go to Paypal via the correct link. Did you log into Paypal via the email?

Well I don't get this. PP's site should never not have the padlock, so I feel like I DID log into a fake site, especially since this was right after I got the email. But I didn't click any links in the email! I went straight to the website myself.

Well, I typed paypal.com, which directed me to https://www.paypal.com/us/.Originally posted by: RaDragon

As long as you didn't click on any link on the email, and typed: www.paypal.com directly on your browser, you should be fine...
