Is overclocking harming my performance?

Hi,

I've got a 1ghz AXIA Tbird, currently running at 1410mhz (10*141mhz, not unlocked) on my Abit KT7A motherboard. I am running 256MB Cube PC133 SDRam, and have a 46.1GB IBM Deskstar 75GXP HDD. I use Windows 2k.

I setup my new Tbird@1410mhz last Friday, with a big Taisol HSF, and some thermal compound, and my temps are 30 idle, and about 50 under load.

However since Sunday my performance has been very apalling. My HDD sounds like an old 840MB thing whenever I access it, and its generally very slow, which is odd for a Deskstar 75GXP. I used to load Counter-Strike in seconds, it now takes minuites. Exiting this game also takes a while, it used to be instant.

Basically the entire thing is running slow, but 3d performance is still great. Its more like a P3 550 with 64MB Ram than an Athlon 1410 🙁

I've no idea what the problem could be, can anyone shed any light on this?🙁

I ordered over 20 IBM Deskstar 75GXP HDs & am not at all pleased with thier quality. Out so far 4 have died within a week of use.

The problem is probably with the drive & not the OC'd system. Run scandisk & defrag.
