I want to check up on my account status but not have to call that automated line to find out what my account activities are because they charge you after a certain number of usage. They said I can do it for free if I use the Bank Of America online banking. Does anyone else out there use this? Is it safe?

I use B of A's online banking for everything. Transfer funds, check balance, pay bills, check statements, etc. All the packets are encripted, so is pretty much like when you are shopping online. I've been using it for over a year without problems.

I actually use myciti.com (citibank) to look at the status of all my credit cards, paypal, bank account, etrade, etc. and never have had a problem. I've been using this for about 3 years now.

I check all my credit cards and my bank online. Just make sure it's SSL'd. Look for that lock icon on the bottom of the browser (IE/Netscape) or if the URL begins with https:// (not just http://). This will ensure (unless that MSIE security finding 2 weeks ago was for real) that your transactions are encrypted between your browser and the server it's reaching. This includes sending your intial username/password over the internet.

I am doing it for 5 years now - never had a problem... but there is off course always the possibility - nothing is safe

I hope so too- I do some, but I know several people who do theirs exclusively online. Many banks have online services set up, and they'd have to be run by idiots to not be way-secure. Go for it! Nothing wrong with it these days.

I've been doing online banking for several years and have never had a problem.

Other than CitiBankCards.com goes up and down up and down up and down.

Never had a problem. Really, there isn't much to hack anyway. At least with Wells Fargo, about the only damage they could do.. besides having your social security number, is check your balance. :p

About 4 1/2 years ago I was doing tech support for online banking. Worked there for a year and a half and the only problems I ever saw were people's online payments not getting where they were supposed to on time.

99.9% of the time it was their own damn fault for not sending it 5 business days in advance of the due date, morons assumed the money was transferred from their account directly to their <insert debtor here>.

Just make sure you actually read the fine print when you sign up.

The easiest way to get your information is to steal your garbage or bribe your waitress.
I have no idea why folks are worried some hacker is stealing their CC info from the internet banking system.

A SSL connection are a must and also a strong password. Not a cheesy password like "pickle" but something really long and hard-to-guess with mixed case and some numbers tossed in. Then just hope the server dudes are up-to-date on security issues. :)
