I bought a pair of those wraparound Oakleys for golfing to keep the wind and dust out of my eyes - you know, the ones David Duval wears? Love 'em, best pair I've ever owned. But I use my el cheapo sunglasses more often. The big wraparound Oakleys are a bit much for most days.

I got a pair of Jackets about 2 years ago. Best money I ever spent on a pair of shades. I've noticed since I paid alot for my Oakley's that I take better care of them. Where as if I buy a pair of Wal-Mart specials their broke within a month.

whats so special about oakleys??

I bought a pair of $8 sunglasses at WalMart and they do the job- they reduce the glare and look fairly cool. Thats good enough for me as I only wear them when I'm driving and its really sunny.

I have a pair of A wire 2.0's that i paid a testicle for, but i absoloutely love this glasses, and i found that i take Immaculate care of them! For my face the fit is very good, and i get next to no light intrusion, and the optics are Phoenominal.. It took me 2 years to finially get the guts to go and buy them :)

<< I'd almost say yes. I have an old pair of e-wires from about 97 or 98. The clarity of the optics in a pair of Oakleys (or other high-end sunglasses) is unbelievable. They don't compare to the cheap glasses. That said, I think the material they make the frames out of is such crap that they aren't worth it if you have any chance or losing/breaking them. My e-wires are so bent up its crazy. I tried finding the t-wires a little while ago hoping they wouldn't have that problem, but they apparently canceled those.

Now I have a pair of Ray-Bans (ditched Oakley due to style reasons) and they have pretty much the same problem. Awesome optics, somewhat crappy frame construction (bends way to easily, especially the nose bridge).

I'm in the exact same boat as Nord. They have great optics, but their frames blow. Gets bent all the time. I used to bring it in to Sunglass Hut and let them warm it up and all and try to bend it, but after having to go in every month or so, I just said "fu<k it" and started doing it myself. I think Oakley's would be much more worth it if they put polarized lenses into their wires, but unfortunately, you can't even buy customized ones like you can with the prescriptions. But even if they did, I probably still wouldn't buy it because I think trying to look like Robocop lost it's fad along with Dolorians some time in the 80's.

Nord: you should look into purchasing a pair of flexon frames. I picked up a pair of Maui Jims and although they're a little more expensive, the frames are indestructable and they have beautiful polarized lenses. I take $#!TTY care of them compared to the kind of care that Oakleys required and they still look and fit like they are brand new.

Went looking today. Sadly, none of the wires fit very well. They seemed too close to my face when fit properly. The ones that I felt fit the most were the straightjackets. I think I am going to get them with the polarized lenses (sigh..near doubling the price of the glasses). Does anyone have a pair of polarized lenses from oakley? Do they scratch easily?

If you wear glasses alot, once you buy some high quality glasses you'll know. Personally, as long as the sun's up and i'm not indoors i'm wearing glasses, so it makes sense for me. If you only wear em for like 5 minutes a day it might not be worth it to you....

re: jackhammer
The only time I scratched my glasses were when I dropped them and somebody stepped on em =(

<< However Oakley is replacing them for only $22 >>

That's because they cost less than that to manufacture, lol. Yea, Oakley makes some killer shades. I have a pair of limited edition minutes and a pair of e-wire 2.0's. Drive in style, drive Oakley. :)
