Is Nvidia Getting Sloppy?

Did any one notice that Nividia pulled their last two unified driver package versions?
Between this and the 5800 Ultra flop it appears that Nvidia is getting sloppy.
Maybe ATI will buy Nvidia?!:p

ATI will be the loser if it buys Nvidia because it will get all the filthy useless cards from Nvidia that cant run the basic AA or FSAA modes. I did rather see ATI crush Nvidia into the ground.

You don't seem to understand that competition is a good thing.

I dunno, with their current value they could probably only afford to buy 100 of the millions of shares outstanding... maybe NVIDIA will buy ATI and shut them down just for the hell of it.

:p

All I am saying is; does anyone notice this fumbling on Nvidia's side?
I used to love Nvidia products all the way up to Geforce3- after that things got sloppy (like designing the Geforce4 without DX9 support). I hope the best, and maybe the 5900 Ultra will turn things around (it does look like an excellent card).
But I can only imagine what ATI has planned next, lately ATI seems to have their act together with solid products released at a reasonable dates with solid drivers.
Check the shelves at your local CompUSA and you will see poor quality no name manufacturers with GeforceFX video cards.

wth are you smoking? business wise, nvidia is lightyears ahead of ATI. ATI has not had a profitable year in a while and nVidia is rolling in the $$$$$$. If they wanted too nvidia could buy out futuremark/madonion, visiontek, or even gulliemont/hercules.

facts from fortune.com
ATI Stock price: 8.35
nVidia stock price: 26.17
ATI Market Cap/Shares outstanding: 1.98B/237.3M
nVidia market Cap/Shares outstanding: 4.18B/159.6M
ATI P/E ratio: N/A (for they do not make money, only loose)
nVidia P/E ratio: 137, which is not that good compared to your oil company but still better than looosing money

neither is powerfull enough to buy either. Plus the justice department would not clear it in a million years. ATI is a larger company than nvidia in terms of revenue though. but revenue is worthless without profit, that which ATI lacks.

It's very difficult for any company to maintain a schedule of new products every 6-12 months when the products are more and more complex. Nvidia has it's hand in 2 cookie jars right now with video cards and motherboard chipsets. I don't think that they are doing too bad.

At least ATi do good drivers

Are you serious? I was a nVidia guy since the TNT cards and swiitched over to Ati when they came out with the Radeon VIVO card. I'm a huge Ati fan, but I would not say that they have a track record for good drivers. Granted, the catalyst drivers have been pretty good lately, but people still run into a lot of problems.

Nvidia held it down until they missed the mark after the geforce 4. THe Riva 128, TNT, TNT2 and Geforce slaughtered anything Ati had out at the time. The geforce2 GTS was faster than the radeon. The GF3 was faster than the 8500. Ati had nothing to show against the GF4.

Then all of a sudden they missed a cycle, and the radeon 9700 killed the GF4. The crappy FX came out, and nvidia lost again. Fx5900 is out, and ati is killing them again.

At this point, Ati has the heads up, but its not so bad as 3dfx that theyre going to die off. I wish nvidia had something good because I still prefer their cards. Ive always had trouble with Ati drivers, rarely any with nvidia (graphics drivers, nforce drivers are shoddy).

But youll never get my 9500 Pro from me. Great card, but I'm still waiting on nvidia to make their comeback. Its only been a year or so theyve been down and out.

I agree with this 100%. **dons NVidia fanboi disguise**

NVidia spread itself a little thin in the past 2 years but they are regrouping quickly. TechnoJunkie79 points to the release and subsequent pulling of the nForce UDA drivers as point #1 but if you were a member of the nForce community you'd know that there is a very concerted effort on the part of NVidia, a certain website/forums, and some dedicated users dedicated to producing the finest set of chipset drivers possible. I am a part of this community and I am very excited. Progress is being made and the payoff for our patience is looming on the horizon. :)

TechnoJunkie79 also points to the flop of the 5800 Ultra as an indicator of their "sloppiness". Hey, even Intel, the biggest and most widely reknown processor maker (a fine company with great products I might add) makes mistakes every once in a while. But look past the 5800 to the entire new GF FX lineup. I see all the pricepoints covered with decent performance at each level. Each driver release has boosted the performance at least somewhat and improved IQ at the same time. Given time it is my belief that the GF FX will be the powerhouse products the GF line has been since their inception. I personally am waiting for a <$200 GF FX 5600 Ultra ViVo for my next upgrade. I am confident that by the time that product is available at my required pricepoint that the drivers for that card will have matured greatly.

Overall I am very happy with NVidia (if you couldn't tell).

Im really disappointed with nVidia:

1)the 2.41 nForce driver fixed the audio issue, but f***d up the memory controller and ide interface
2)the 2.03 are allowing proper functionality of optical/hdd devices, but the audio is bad.
3)FX line is piece of $#!+
4)and extremely expensive at that
5) and big
6)and it doesnt have normal drivers

And thats odd, cuz nVidia didnt have any changes in its baord of directors...what might have messed nVidia up so much? I believe nVidia regrets that it ever engaged in a battle with ati.

And thats really odd, considering the fact how much $$$ ati made from its 9500+ series sales...
