It seems that everyone on this forum is pretty crazy about nvidia's graphics cards now. Are they that much better than ati's cards?

Depends on which cards. For mainstream, they tend to be more preferred(6800GS and 7800GT). For high end, the 1900XTX is faster.

I think that on these forums, the current consensus is that if you want pure performance without considering power requirements etc, then ATI is the way to go on the mid-high end. Otherwise, you go with nVidia. Why you see more posts about nVidia, and not ATI is a different story.

A lot of us are going through the eVGA step-ups, and a lot of us are going through the problems that the 7900 GT cards are having. Moreover the 7900 series has launched recently. So you'd expect more talk about them.

I bet you if there were a poll, most people would tell you that the X1900 is the way to go right now. I may be wrong but then again I may be right........

Push start button -> load windows -> DC on explorer,mozilla,firefox icon.. -> google 7900gtx vs x1900xtx benchmarks or anything else relevant you might want..
Alternatively click on search button from time to time.. It won't bite you.. Cheers.. :beer:

These topics were discussed myriads of time in here.. Unless you are a troll seeking for food..

It really depends who you ask, nVidia just released the 7900 so alot of people are talking about it but that doesn't mean the 7900 is better.

ATI/Nvidia are neck to neck, depending on which segment of the Market you compare. Choose your budget, get the best card that fits it. May be ATI, may be NVidia.

My Video Cards have been:

ATI Mach32 --> ATI 98 --> 3dfx Voodoo2 ---> Nvidia MX 200? ---> ATI 9500 Pro -----> Nvidia 6800GS AGP (just bought).

These 2 companies are always neck and neck, and I've never been disappointed with either.

Someone should make a poll: If both we available for their retail prices ($500~), what would you buy, an ATi X1900XTX or an nVidia 7900GTX.

give or take a feature here and there and you cant go wrong where ever you put your money. (at the highend at least)

though i would probably steer clear of X1600 and X1300 as i do genuinely think NV have better products for the same or maybe a little more money (ie more money but worth it)

I have to agree.. they're pretty neck-and-neck. Even when you get two "equals", they trade off 1st and 2nd place depending on what game you play. I don't think any one is consistently better in every instance. I flip-flop back and forth too. I just moved to an X1900XTX from a 7800GT. But this was largely spurred by finding the 1900 on ebay today for only 425 bucks while the 7900GTX's are still hard to find for $500.

Its more that in some games (Oblivion) nVidia has alot of driver problems. Ive read most of the Oblivion threads, and most of the video cards are nVidia. Other than that, NECK AND NECK.

This pretty much sums it all up.

Cons are
Nvidia -> Poorer visuals
ATI -> Runs HOT (80C-90C load)

Nvidia and ATI have nearly identical IQ, which are both great by the way. You are not getting any less IQ with Nvidia than you are with ATI.

The new ATI cards tend to be better though as far as performance go, but the 7x series is very good for the price they offer.

ATI's angle independant AF is by all accounts superior, and ATI offers HDR+AA in Farcry and Serious Sam 2 (and others if the devs decide to offer is), ATI also takes less of a performance hit with IQ enhancements so you can turn the IQ up a little more.

I'm not really sure what you're talking about here, the X1900XTX $50 cheaper then the 7900GTX with about the same performance and the X1900XT is atleast $100 cheaper and offers performance as good as the 7900GTX. The X1800XT is faster and cheaper then the 7900GT. At the lower end nVidia cards are as fast (or faster) and cheaper then their ATI counterparts (7600GT vs. X1800GTO)

I see it this way...

Nvidia for pure speed
ATI for Image quality

My 9700pro kicks the crap out of my 6800gt when it comes to image quality, even at lower resolutions my ATI still looks better in some games than my 6800gt at higher resolutions.

My ATI is a Gigabyte R9700PRO
My Nvidia is a ASUS V9999GT

so neither card is a cheapy

I call shenanigans. By many accounts, image quality is roughly the same, with ATI angle independent AF being a little better, and nVidia's AA a little better.

As far as HDR+ AA goes, is there anyone among us still playing two year old Far Cry still?

Or listening to the elf warble "seeerrrriioouss damage!" in "his" high pitched falsetto in Serious Sam 2? Or the little blue natives chirping "Hello!" over and over? The clowns on unicycles? Green football players? It's a cool kiddie game, but hardly in need of HDR+AA.

Just pointing out that I've seen many reviews that say the IQ difference isn't that great and there hasn't been a compelling HDR+AA game yet?

Seems harmless?

Both of my X1900s run in the 60s at most. You don't get over 65 unless you're cooling passively, or keeping the fan below 30%.
