Is not having dual band wifi a no-go for a mobile phone?

I noticed that many budget phones don't have dual band wifi. Is that a serious omission at this time? I think I haven't noticed anywhere which only had 5Ghz wifi yet. Will 2.4Ghz wifi be phased out in the near-medium term like what happened to 2G.

2.4GHz isn't going anywhere as above mentioned, but I'll say the reason: Because it goes through walls/objects better than 5GHz does.

5GHz is what I'd use for the pc that's in the same room as the wireless router or maybe one dry wall from the room the wireless router is in (mileage may vary). 2.4GHz is what I'd use for overall reliability in staying connected through the whole house or maybe even just outside the house (porch, drive way, etc) because that frequency penetrates through walls better than 5GHz does.

Again, mileage may vary.
