cheaper to cook for me ..
Porterhouse Steaks cost $4 per pound here when on sale ... so about $5 for a 20oz steak
Rice is dirt cheap ... so like 10 cents for enough to go with steak
Corn is pretty cheap ... like 50 cents a can or less
RC cola is $5 for a case of 24 cans when on sale ...
Then theres the gas to heat the stove, the electricity to power the dishwasher, and the water the dishwasher uses ... I imagine it all adds up to under $1 for 1 meal .

Assuming 1 steak, 2 cans of cola, rice, and corn, makes a meal .. it costs about $6
If i go to a steakhouse ... it costs $20 - $30 for the same basic meal

I guess that's my whole point. For 4-5 bucks I can go out and eat a beef or chicken bowl. If I cook, I can get a much better meal for 4-5 bucks. I'm not really saving money, but I'm getting more out of it.

eggs = buy on sale or buy cheap ones. heck i buy them at whole foods, 1.49/dozen. grade A but whatever. eggs are eggs.
salmon = either you're going to buy fresh or fish farm free which is expensive, or buy on sale in value packs and freeze what you don't eat.
miso = buy the jar of paste.

electricity = negligible.

my lunch today was pasta and an apple. no way that cost 4-6 bucks. i buy pasta only on sale. (i.e. 5 for $4.00 boxes of barilla pasta, sauce 2 jars for $5.00 + 1.00 coupon that's doubled, etc)

you bargain shop all your computer parts, and you won't learn to grocery bargain shop!

Without looking, I believe the pasta I have is also barilla pasta... but, 5 for $4 sucks! I thought you said grocery bargain shop? I got it when it was 3 for $1 :D And name brand sauce, 2 jars for $2, then toss in a coupon that gets doubled.

where do you shop? my deals i get at ralphs, since pavillions/vons is too far and ghetto... when i want "nicer" things i go to whole foods.

i've never seen barilla go 3 for 1.00. i've seen the ralphs brand go for that cheap several times though. usually there's a barilla pasta coupon every other month, and at least one or two sauce coupons every month.

i can eat very well for $25/ week on groceries

go to costco every 3 weeks bill runs about $225

split 3 ways = $75 each / 3 weeks

25 a week easily

i may eat 1 and at most 2 meals a week out
and sometimes none

I do not eat a lot of shrimp, fish tho unless you count tuna

mostly beef, chick breast, tuna, ribs etc. but i eat pretty well
and end up spending probably $2 per meal + time obviously

Your comparision is idiotic. Now that you edited the first post, this whole thread is equally idiotic.

If I can't buy something in huge bulk quantities I don't buy it. Bulk is where it's at, baby!

Healthier when you cook at home--Less grease and less salt (if you care about that).

I buy my stuff at 99 ranch market. I think the salmon is more than 1lbs. Probably won't finish it all, but I don't underestimate myself nowadays :p

I didn't mean dishwasher.....just the soap.
I guess I exaggerated a bit. Usually is around 3 dollars. Today is more expensive

I think ranch 99 is too expensive compared to other stores.

I usually just drive to costco to get most stuff, even though Ranch 99 is only 3 min walking from where I live.
Unless it is for certain Chinese/taiwanese stuff or sale stuff, I don't try to shop there too often. Mostly go there for just walk around and looking out for cute girls.

i suck at teh groceries. when i try to cook i spend more on groceries than eating out. also, i think my self made cooking is very bland, and 4 times out of ten i screw up and have to eat really disgusting food.

i live next to the mall though so i can just go to the food court.
