Is norton anti virus the Best?

I know there are many other Anti Virus programms...
but I've always been using Norton. and haven't tried anything else..

Is Norton the BEST?
or do you recommend something else?

Norton is OK, but it's too intrusive and resource hungry for my taste. I've been using a version of PC-Cillin from trendmicro.com - very unobtrusive.

imo, no.

kaspersky is famous for their detection rates its somewhere around ~98% detection, and that is by far superior to that of any other anti-virus (esp norton). Kaspersky personal pro also has more features than norton av2005, u'd haf to go to their website to find out more though :p

not just in your opinion. 2 AV proggies at once will hose your install.

my school provides mcafee virusscan enterprise 7.1 or home edition 8.0 free of charge, i've also been a long time fan of norton antivirus (but NOT internet security, that fscking piece of sh|t!).

before mcafee, I was using AVG 6. I haven't tried any of the other manufacturers, but i'm leaning on moving to kapersky, because mcafee's on-access scan sucks the monkey nuts. i'm a big fan of trendmicro's housecall online scanner too. best one out there, in my experience. :)

You can have two or more AV programs installed, but you have to be able to truly disable the real-time checking portions (memory resident parts) of all but one of them. It is probably better to just have one installed and use the On-line virus checks from others as needed.

I set up a test machine with no firewall to get some viruses. I then ran Norton on it, and talk about a disaster. It missed 6 viruses, and was of no use in cleaning them up.
McAffee under the same test conditions caught everything.

This was by no means scientific, but Norton was useless in my opinion since it didn't catch anything.

Norton is to AV, as AOL is to internet. It is very bloated, doesnt work as well as it should, takes over your system, and costs too much. Personally I use AVG, but there are others out there just as good or better for free or relatively inexpensive. I used to use PC-cillin, that was decent. I have heard lots of good about Panda. McAffee doesnt seem too bad. I think my McAffee opinion would have better opinion if our IT guys would push virus pattern updates through more regularly, we keep getting all kinds of viruses and worms due to patterns that are several months old before they are updated.

ive never had any issues with NAV, and i happen to like it, running 2003 on this comp and its NOT a resource hog, hell winamp is useing more resources then NAV currently is

it has never let me down so i stick with it

2. Take some time and use the SEARCH BUTTON. There is a "whats the best antivirus" thread on here about 4x's a week. I'm sure you will find your info there...................sigh

Oh BTW - The Best AV program that I've seen, used, and read reviews on is the free AVG.
Hands down, awesome
