Is Netflix on NXE slow for you?

I got into the NXE preview, and Netflix was always rock solid, 4 bars on SD content, HD on HD.

About a week after NXE went public, I started getting nothing but 1 bar on everything. It's somewhat better during non-peak hours, but for a solid week now, I have been unable to watching ANYTHING after 3pm.

I'm guessing it's a bandwidth issue on the Netflix end, but it sucks. I will definitely not be subscribing past the trial if they can't sort this out.

I have 7mb Time Warner, for the record.

I installed Netflix on the 360 last night. It ran pretty well, but a few times it would freeze and re-buff because of a "major slow down" on my connection. It got a bit annoying. I've got a 5MB charter connection, I was getting 3 bars on SD and HD always on as well...dropped to 2 bars later on in the evening.

I usually am stuck with only 1 or 2 bars in the evening (or 3 that eventually re-buffers to 1). I blame the other residents in my apartment building, but it could be a Netflix thing I suppose. Otherwise I can usually get 3 or 4 with HD.

Well, I had the "shared apartment connection" theory too, so I took it to my parent's house for Thanksgiving, where they have an even faster internet connection, and still got the same results.

Why aren't they buffering these movies better? The XBox does have a hard drive. Horrible software implementation is to blame. Even if 10 minutes is needed to build a buffer, why not just do that? Have a pre-loading period).

I'm with you on this. I wish there were more settings, say, allow a buffering period or not to allow for a better picture, etc.

I believe the Roku player has those options, available through a hidden screen.

I understand that streaming is viewed as "value-added" to Netflix, but the implementation is lackluster.

How much do you want it to buffer? The only time it has to re-buffer for me is when I fast-forward or rewind. Other than that, it's like watching a DVD.

vmcNetflix Lets you download the movie first then watch it (still need the netflix subscription to validate the license when you play them later)

I only get some motion issues during SD playback...not jerky/stuttery but not a totally smooth flow during panning shots (for example). No problems with HD movies; maybe VC-1 playback has better hardware acceleration implementation than WMV3 on the Xbox360 (I'm guessing here).

I always have 4 bars, but HD almost always has to buffer down a tier at some point during playback. Really unfortunate when I was watching Pan's Labryinth. I haven't had any buffering problems with SD streams. They should definitely allow for much larger background buffering.

The only other issue I've run in to was one HD movie, 4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days actually caused my xbox to lock up. I tried it three times and it locked up each time...even after skipping past portions where it locked the last time. Not sure WTF happened there.

Yeah, you can tell the difference between the stuff that has been encoded recently versus stuff that was encoded with an older codec. Macross Plus looked horrible but Read or Die and The Day The Earth Stood Still looked really good.

I also wonder if there are issues during the transfer. I'd think DVDs and other digital forms offer the best transfers, as opposed to analog capture from tape/reels...which could be the factor introducing unsmooth motion in to the encode. I can't think of a particular film right now be bad motion...I'll have to look through my history.

It could also be tha I'm outputting through VGA instead of HDMI or component (though I dunno why that would really matter...same resolutions). So many variables...I'm confident it'll all work out as it evolves.

Not necessarily Queasy...

We found The Office: Season 2 to be the only season in the HD section of Netflix's website, yet Season 1, which we found in just the normal TV show section, pulls up at HD. So I guess if it's available and your speed is fast enough it'll automatically default to HD, if it's not fast enough it'll go to SD. Just a guess though.

P.S. My wife was REALLY excited when she saw they had 6 seasons of Xena: Warrior Princess available. I'm scared...

Hey the heavy lesbian undertones make it a great series.

Honestly, between Netflix and PlayOn able to stream Hulu and CBS I almost don't need DirecTV anymore. If there was a way to stream all the ESPN channels live, Disney, and Cartoon Network content I could cancel DirecTV.

I just got mine setup, watched one movie so far ( Bill Burr - Why do I do this = HILLarious)

Not a hitch or hiccup, but it is pretty far from peak hours so...

so far, VERY cool service.

Just adding my 2 cents.

I've watched like 7 movies and haven't had any stutters or anything. I think my downspeed is around 9mb/s though

I think these issues people are having are from their unreliable ISPs. It calculates the buffer based on the speed but if your isp jacks up alot or is unstable you'll have issues.

Just a side note on this, the HD section wont appear unless you have the Blu-Ray add on.

I'm not sure about that, but for Xbox users the HD genre within the Watch Instantly section will be available once you've activated your Xbox for Netflix streaming. It's available for me, and I do not have Blu-ray enabled for my Netflix account.

Aah, makes sense now that you mention it.. I didnt see the HD section at first, I just happened to activate both at the same time..

Ill fix the post.

I've watched pushing 30 items & the experience has mostly been great. The HD items look great even on a relatively large TV (61").

In the last few days though I've had some performance issues that I'm not too happy about. I was only able to get SD for the latest Heroes episode, & I've had a few cases of pausing. Prior to this week it was absolutely flawless.

I re-subscribed to Netflix solely for this, if they don't get it straightened out I will cancel. I'm willing to pay for a higher plan if necessary (currently on the $8 plan as I already have a Blockbuster Premium plan) but I want it to be the way it was last week or I won't pay for it at all.

Viper GTS

There is supposedly a problem with Netflix's and Apple's content delivery providers. I read it on CNET yesterday. Unfortunately, they haven't notified their customers.
