Is NE1 surprised? Ford Focus recalled...AGAIN!

Ford really doesn't make all that good of automobiles. Friend of mine worked at a ford dealership over in Tampa. Back in 1996 or thereabouts, when the Ford Taurus's were redesigned with the more shapely/round design, they had a problem with all the ones out on the lot in the hot sun. The heat caused some sort of grease or gunk used in the steering column to soften and ooze all over the carpeting, ruining the carpeting on quite a few cars that were out on the lot. Lousy quality control if you ask me

It's funny cause I know a guy who knows a guy who worked for Ford kinda thing... He said that a week after they started their "Quality is Job #1" thing, they promised their painters that the shift who used the least paint to paint the cars got a bonus... So the guy said that a ton of Fords were going out with no primer or no paint on the underside of hoods etc 🙂

The only SVT Focus we have ever had on the lot, is in the shop with a TB (throttle body) defect. Sold, too, but the customer is getting impatient waiting on parts and will probably back out of the deal.

<< It is the ninth time a version of the popular Focus compact has been recalled since the model's launch in the fall of 1999. >>

I am not surprised at all since Ford sucks.

Now, that is a generalized opinion, not a fact. Go do some sales volume research. I chose to be working, selling what the majority are buying, meaning more sales for this guy. 😉

F-Series Trucks
Explorers
Tauruses
Mustangs

All very, very popular and high volume sellers. 😀

The SVT hasn't even been readily available for more than a month. They should really re-do that topic because its not just in the SVT...

I still consider them fine cars. At least Ford is going out and fixing these things, not just letting them go over and over. If you didn't see, internal testing caught this one like it should have.

A recall every 3 months. Yup, that's definitely a Ford product. My 1998 Contour had been recalled 7 times in the 28 months I owned it. Bye, bye POS.

Maybe better designing of the car (or tighter production tolerances) would have stopped the previous EIGHT recalls 😀

I bet you if they got Toyota TQM engineers in there that the plant would be cranking out some quality vehicles.

Oh please, need I remind you of the Paseo?

At least its only 600 cars. I mean, thats not much other than negative publicity. Start talking 100K or 1M cars, I'd be (more) worried.

What about the Paseo? That car is far gone.

Don't sit here and tell me that Ford's TQM is as good or even close to Toyota's. Ford has goofed SO much in the past 2 years that it isn't even funny. They're trying to fix their problems, but there are so many to sort out.

The Escape was riddled with bugs and recalls
The Focus was fuc&ed from the beginning
The LS had problems w/it's engine
Thunderbird; same problems as LS
Explorer was recalled b/c of cut tires and shattering rear hatch glass
Mustangs were recently recalled
The F-150 was recently recalled for engine defects causing oil leaks

Would you like me to go on???

I didn't say Fords TQM was as good as Toyotas asshat. I'm just saying its not nearly as bad as you portray it to be.

There are 10x (yah, its exagerated) the number of Fords on the road than there are Toyotas. Problems like this do arise when you have that large of a user base.

FYI, the Paseo was fvcked from the beginning too. So many service recalls.

Toyota is the #3 selling manufacturer in the WORLD with 10.2% marketshare. Ford has 12.4% marketshare (#2). I'd hardly call that 10x (or even close; even though I know you're exaggerrating).

I probably would have bought a Focus ZX3 in August if I hadn't read the user reviews at epinions.com first. Even then they were talking about the 7 recalls... it was a case of about half the people got perfect cars they loved, about 5% got lemons, and the rest had nothing but problems. I liked the way it drove but didn't want to take the risk of getting a lemon. Guess I made the right choice 😀.
