I've had four orders from ncix and am generally quite happy with them.
I always pricematch to get a better deal and the savings from not paying provincial tax generally covers shipping.

My orders were shipped fast (about 2 days) but the last one wasn't packed that well and took a bit longer than usual to get(5 days)
There wasn't any damage to the contents but it wasn't up to their previous standards. They also offer deals on some products through different sites or ads that dont show up when you select a product for the shopping basket so be sure to look around and pricematch.

Yeah, I emailed them and they told me I won't pay the full 15% taxes that we pay in Quebec but only 7% with MAKES a difference on a 1400 $ machine. :)

Humm, where can I find these ads of deals ? :p

PCCanada.Com is an excellent store, I just stop by the store directly, I live near them, so I save on shipping costs.

Anitec bought my CDRW and a stick of RAM from them a couple months ago, but you have to mail a money order.
a-power
ATIC known for horrid service
GBComputers
This one's in Quebec so you'll be paying QST, and I had a bad shopping experience, but overall rated well.

ncix.com is likely the most popular, and rightly so, but the packaging garners complaints a lot lately and service kinda sucks. Use with caution.

My friend bought from Ncix and tried to get me to buy from them too. They had very good prices. Then his hard drive had problems, then his cd rom drive faild and they did not stand by their stuff. All this happened within the first year. They claimed software problems, not hardware...same old bs you hear time and time again.

I live 3 blocks from Atic. They have great prices and huge selection. They are totally incapable of offering any kind of service whatsoever. They don't need to. They have a constant line up of people buying from them. They're often rude. On a good day they will just look at you. They will argue, disregard and dismiss you in a second. They offer great prices...that's it. I buy from them, but every time I do, I wonder why.

My system...I finally got from Dell. I may have paid a little more up front, but it has never had a problem, and I have never had an argument or headache from them or my machine. These small build anything and sell anything stores can offer big, but they don't want to hear from you again. Unless it's to buy some more. Can't blame them for that, but as a customer you may want to be more discriminating.

You guys mentioned deals direct. I was looking to purchase from them and was wondering if they are reputable or a hassle?

NEVER EVER buy anything from atic. Worst service in the history of Vancouver Canada. after sales is the worst try returning something.

www.A-power.com is my favourite store and hottest store in vancouver. Don't believe me check out www.canada-computers.com and go to vendor reviews and go to B.C. and check for a-power, atic, and ncix.

I live in Ottawa which puts me in the premier spot for buying PC hardware.

TOP TIER STORES!

#1 www.RBcomputing.com RB is probably the best PC store in the country. They have amazing prices... great service and best of all a huge catalog. They are one of only 3 stores in Canada that sell Koolance cases!

#2 www.DealsDirect.ca is about 3 blocks from my house and they have ordered in atleast 5 items for me that are now common stock. The owner and staff are excellent and you'll be hardpressed to find fault with their warranty service. I cant say enough for this store! I highly recommend checking there "weekly specials" often... you can get some very good deals.

#3 www.e-compuvision.com This is the OVERCLOCKING store for Ontarians. They are located in Toronto and have an excellent selection of OCing equipment. Like every other store I listed I have bought an order of $100 or more and was completely satisfied with the service and packaging. If E-comp doesn't have what your after try www.bigfootcomputers.com I like this store too but they have terrible email support which is a big turn off in an online retailer.

2nd Tier: Great but not perfection

#4 www.Crawfordmicrosystems.com This store has the lowest harddrive prices I have ever seen in Canada. I am purchasing my third IBM 60gxp 40gb drive next week to make my RAID 0 array 120gb and I'll give you guys my opinion on the service then. One OEM dealer friend of mine warned me about Crawfords sales people. They work on commision but having worked commision retail for a few years myself I see this as a plus not a minus.

#5 www.NCIX.com I am going to order my next motherboard from this store but I havn't purchased anything there yet. For the record I have been unable to find any store that has the same selection as NCIX. It really is amazing... The Soltek SL-75DRV2 is my current dream motherboard and NCIX has it in stock for $178 CDN!

#6 www.compunation.com I have bought my last 2 IBM 60gxp 40gigs at this store. They have a few stores in Ontario and they are just about the only place in Canada to get an ADDTRONICS CASE! www.addtronics.com I don't think they do online sales and they have a tiny shop but I am satisfied so far.

3rd tier: Scum of the earth!

#7 www.fedacom.com This company is everything bad in computer retail. I purchased a VideoCard from them and it took me 2 months to convince them that it was damaged. Then they sent it back to the manufacturer twice before giving me the card I paid for, they tried to pawn off a geforce 2 gts when I bought a Geforce2 GTS PRO! By the time I got the card in my system it was available at other retailers for 40 percent less than what I paid.

Conclusion:
I hope this will help some of you and I urge you all to post when something bad happens... we all like to know which stores to avoid! The reason I have purchased from so many of these places is that I am both a hardcore Overclocker and a Computer Systems Technician student at Algonquin College. You all obviously know a lot about hardware or you wouldn't be at Anandtech so I leave you with this. I noticed some folks were unsatisfied with NCIX but its a large retaler so a little of that is to be expected. Have a good holiday season!

Earlier this year I ordered a couple of drives from NCIX. Came "packed" with a bit of syrofoam peanuts, everything banging around in the box. Heard many similar reports. They may have improved their shipping methods since.

I have had a horrible experience from NCIX and I will NEVER do business with them again! My story:

I ordered a PS and a case. When I ordered them it said IN STOCK. I check again 3 days later it says IN STOCK. I call them and and find out that PS is out of stock. They tell me it will come in 2 days. I wait. I call 3 days later. They say it has been delayed. I wait. No PS. I cancel. Wasted 2 weeks. ARGH!!! :|

Hey ! NCIX has pricematch... I know some of you had bad experiences but I though it was good noting...
just before checkout, when you see your cart, you can set YOUR prices you SAW on ANY website that has lower prices !!! Kewl heh ?
I wonder if its true or only a joke.. ;)
