So I am looking to purchase DVD editing software and was wondering if people thought MyDVD8 was the best, also what is the difference between Essentials and Premier, most premier features I wouldnt need, High Def and Widescreen

the only difference i am worried about is
"Scene Detection
Perform automatic or manual scene detection on imported video file or video capture
"
does that mean that the essentials cant automatically find scenes?

Unless things have changed I thought Adobe Encore was the best DVD software.
Though if you were serious you would use it in conjunction with Premier.

I once saw a combo pack that had Premier, Encore and Audition along with a firewire card and cable. All for a vary reasonable price.

(You need to take the spaces out yourself. Anandtech doesnt like the site name for some reason.)

OK, I couldnt find the Adobe Pack. But this is the website that I originally found it on. I understand that the Ulead Professional is also decent.
