Here is a noob question for you...

I want to make sure no one is accessing my wireless home connection. I have a Linksys Modem, Wireless G Router and Linksys PCI wireless card.

I selected "ON" for all firewall protection options on my wireless config page. I also have a WPA data encrytion enabled.

How can I find out if anyone with a wireless laptop can access my linksys from outside and use my internet?

And no, I do not have a laptop to check for myself... lol :p

well, all wireless connections can be got at eventually. I would make sure you are running the maximum possible protection, with MAC filtering and SSID hidden as well as the WPA that you already have.

That will deter casual browsers/hackers

just my 2 cents, there are TONS of unsecure wireless networks out there. Basic prevention, like encryption is generally enough. It never hurts to have extra. But with so many open networks, most people trying to access will move on to find one where they don't have to hack in.

From my experince, the average wardialer isn't that smart, and doesn't have the knowledge to "hack" into a secure network. But as the dude above said, MAC Filtering can only add to the security, and is a snap to setup.

Like most of us you have an Entry Level Wireless using Peer to Peer Network.

Given the means available to Entry Level Wireless, "Compromise" usually can
be detected by finding extra IPs given to more computer than what have on
your network.

You can periodically log to your Router's DHCP clients list and see what
list status is.

May be this can further Help.

Otherwise, Wireless Security can be enhanced by using special servers to logon and would provide there more elaborate controls to id the users (might cost you close to $1000 or more).
