it's good. almost all recent hardware works with win2k.

but u might want another 128mb ram. considering it's so cheap. win2k just gets by with 128mb.

Is 128 not enough for win2k?, I know it's cheap right now but I'm running out of dough. Do people have a similar configutation running under win2k?

You can run Win2K with 128 with no prob but 256 is better. I was running it with just 128 and it worked fine but i just ordered 2 256Mb sticks and it will run better.

i was running 128mb... it's fine if u're running a few apps. but if u're playing games, go for 256. 384 is wonderful :)

otherwise your system swaps to the hard disk like crazy. 128mb ram is like $50... pretty good investment if you ask me.

Ram
128ram will run just fine, so don't warry. More ram will give you better performance, especially if you like Adobe Photoshop...

Via4-1
Do not install anthing later than the 4.25a. you can do the hotfix.

128MB of ram is fine. I saw only a negligible increase in performance moving to 192 from 128MB on my W2K machine, even when gaming. It wasn't worth the $30 cost of the upgrade in my book.

And don't let people make you want to spend money. If you're not gaming, editing video, or running 20 things at once, you don't even need 128MB. I have an office machine running W2K that does the regular office stuff (Internet/Email, Word, Excell, some Desktop Publishing) with 2-3 things open at a time that is running just fine with 96MB.

your best bet is to do the install of 2kpro and see how it runs. if you notice that lots of swaps are taking place and apps take a long time to load when you have lots of things going on, it might be a good idea to get more, otherwise just stick with what you got, esp if you have limited funds; )

DaTech: You should be "OK" with 128. My school went cheap and just dumped Win 2k Advanced Server on a PIII 500 with 64mb RAM. It runs, but not as fast as it could with 128 or even 256. RAM is by far the thing that makes windows 2000 pro fly more than even a really souped up processor. Look at my specs. Its running great.

Depends on what your doing with the machine....

R U running ACAD... Get 512 +
Programming or any other grafix programs like Adobe PS 256 +
I also recommend 256meg
128 will run but you'll like 256+ much better
Least RAM can be added tho so you can run 128 now and just wait, thats no big deal

Definitely go with WIN2K, it's a great, stable OS, and it will run ok, but you'll be swapping to the harddrive with only 128....Even an extra 64 will make it much better, but like everyone says...RAM is CHEAP right now, spend $50 and get a decent stick of 128... However, I have to disagree with Fusion Torch on the via drivers and ATA-100....WIN2K does not support ATA-100 until SP2 is released in the next month or two...Also, the Via 4 in one drivers have been causing many people headaches, some say only use up to version 4.5a ... Search the forums for via 4 in 1 and you'll find more info....
