Can't get a core 2 duo... they're made in 45nm, my motherboard is for 65nm! :(

Anyway, I'll start with the graphics card, if anyone can suggest a combination of (motherboard + cpu + gpu + ram) for under €150 with that link, step foward please.

Is there any game where I can really see the CPU bottleneck? Remember I'm running that all on a ATI3450 wich in some cases is slower than an oldie GeForce6600GT

Wow I didn't relize the 3450 was that slow!
Sorry, yes get the gpu first.

And the 4670 does not need a pci-e connector and will play just fine at 1280x1024.

It is a poor graphics card but remember, its just $30 and as you see, it allows you to run some recent games at a 'fair' framerate! To be honest, when I bought it, I never expected to perform so well!

I can tell you I can play Assassins Creed smoothly at 1024*768 with medium settings! And my CPU sucks...

And it is hard to find 65nm core 2 duo here... I'll have to stick with the GPU only

lol, why would you think that the fab process of the CPU would have any impact on its compatibility with your motherboard?

Some early motherboards will not use a 45nm chip ,he is right.

He needs a 65nm chip with a 800 or 1066 bus. He looking for a Conroe core 2 .

By the way, if anyone wanna step in for a €200 upgrade... feel free :)

This is what I own:

Pentium D820 2,8Ghz
Asus P5VD2-VM
2Gb DDR2 (dunno if 533mhz or 667mhz)
Seagate 150gb 7.200 rpm
PSU - dunno, how many watts, only it its 230volts
GPU - ATI3450

http://www.mbit.pt/configurador/index.php

...remember, not more than €200 the less the best... and I need to know what can I use

Here's a possible build:
GIGABYTE - EP43-UD3L - 75.99
INTEL - Pentium E5300 - 61.99
ASUS - EAH4670/DI/512MD3/A - 61.99
TOTAL: 199.97 ():)

You'll get a Core 2 based dual-core that's worlds faster than your current CPU, as well as a 4670 which is also waaaaaaaaaaaaaay faster than your current GPU. You'll be able to keep your same case, PSU, memory, HDDs, etc. I would imagine that any PSU that could power 2 Prescott-based P4 cores will be more than sufficient for an E5300.

If anyone wants to contribute an equivalent AMD build, be my guest.

His board can also take Allendale Core2Duos, Pentium Dual-Cores (E2140 through E2200) and single-core Celerons like the 420. Probably a cheaper route to go and still better than a Netburst Pentium-D.

Its not just a matter of getting a faster system... is if it worthable?! To pay €200 to get new cpu+gpu (C2D+ATI4670) to get 40fps in a game instead of this Pentium D with a 9600gt getting 36fps... is not worthable :\

New GPU now (how about 5750?) and wait 12-18 months before a full upgrade of CPU/Mobo/RAM. We should be thinking long-term here as well as "right here, right now", as the OP doesn't seem to be the "upgrade every year" type.

A pentium D with a 3450 is the bottom of the barrel for gaming.
A C2D with 4670 will double your gaming performance for about 120$.
You can not do better then that with your psu.

If you upgrade your psu to a Antec Earthwatts 380watt (50$) with the new C2D cpu (60$),and add a used 8800gt 512mb (70$). This setup will run all games on your monitor on high settings!!! for 180$

If you don't want a used 8800gt buy a new 9800gt for about 100$ and your total comes to about 210$.

Thats the best you can do for your money.
