I got a Dayton 10" sub from Parts-Express a few years ago. This was their $99 special.

The sub has worked great until now...

In the middle of the night it start putting out a ton of base, not a hum. It was almost like a partially connected cable but very loud. I pulled the power and removed the speaker cable. When I turned it back on it still did the same thing.

Any ideas? or is it time to get a new one :(

If it is bad, do you have any recommendations for a replacement? I want to keep it under $200.

i know it's a tad higher than your range, but i just got this to replace a JBL that was originally $400.

it definitely hits harder than the JBL did. my JBL had a problem where it would constantly go from standby to on and flicker back/forth real quick, which would cause a loud noise as well. not sure if is what yours was doing but that happened to mine. i actually tossed it today at the dump.

for $300 for that sub i'm happy so far with it's performance.

That is a nice sub but I really don't want to spend $300 on it.

If I have to I could just get another $99 special from Parts-Express however I really would like one that lasted a good while - 5+ years.
