Is my sound card dead?

I was working on my new system last night, installing the cards and starting it for the first time. The thing is, I ran out of screws, so the sound card was not screwed in. Now, while I was setting things up in BIOS, I decided to plug in my speakers. The sound card came right out of the slot, while the computer was on!

Now, I have Windows 98SE installed. It detects my sound card, and I have installed the drivers, but I get no sound. I can play wav/mp3/etc files, and it looks like they're playing, but I hear nothing. Is my sound card dead?

I have already tried the simple stuff, like making sure the speakers are plugged in to the right port, and plugging the speakers into my stereo to make sure they aren't dead.

I assume you tried reseating the card (fully removing it then replacing it)? I dont think the PCI slot has enough voltage to do real damage, but I dont know.

Yes, I took the card out, turned the computer off (hard), then put it back in. I found a screw under the couch that just happened to be the right size.

Now, I'm wondering why I am getting no sound. I had the same problem with aonther soundcard once (having drivers installed, speaker in tray, but no actual sound) and it turned out to be a driver problem. However I don't see how it could be the wrong driver, it came with the card!

I'll try Win2k and Linux later.
