He just bought a brand new Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR.

If you don't know what that is, here's a link to a couple articles at Edmunds.

First Drive: 2005 Mercedes-Benz SLR
Follow-Up Test: 2005 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

No pics, but I'm not overly impressed with it in person.

Doesn't appear that he thinks there's a housing bubble.

Street legal? He might be able to out run the cops

Yeah but how hard would it be to trace a car like that :(.

At that price range and when he can afford it, i don't think he gives a sh!t whether is overpriced or not.

When i am so rich that I have money to burn, I wouldn't mind buying large bucks on something I want. It's not like you can bring your money with you to the grave.

That's where I was wondering if people think he's foolish. How does anyone know if he can afford it or not? Maybe he hopes to continue to make enough money to afford it.

Im assuming he isnt financing it ;)

I doubt Mercedes would allow him to buy it if he doesn't have the cash at hand? Remember, this is not an everyday car that will depreciates value drastically.
Even when the housing market collapses, I think he can sell all his stuff and "get by" with a couple million.

A fool is when you buy a NSX and mod it into a ferarri (i think i saw the homepage some time ago).

Who's the fool? He's buying that stuff with YOUR money!

The more FSBOs I see sold, the better I like it. Thousands of dollars in commissions... FOR WHAT?

What if everything you own is leased or financed to the hilt? Look in the first page for more info.

They reviewed that car on Top Gear, talk about freaking sweet. That is one of the fastest if not the fastest street legal cars. The brakes even glow when you slow down they get so hot.

California home buyers are all fvcked in the brain for driving the housing prices through the roof. That's all. Hooray for greedy realtors.

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking the front end is ugly!

I wouldn't call him a moron as it is down to personal taste.

He isn't a fool. He is just making lots of $$$.

For saving you a SH!TLOAD of work. That's what. I had a townhome (two houses put together with a common marriage wall between them) as a previous residence.

Built at the same time. Same appliances. Same fixtures. Same sq footage. Identical mirriors of each other.

I sold mine in 30 hours listing with a realtor. The other half spent 4 months on the FSBO market before they got sick of hosting open houses every weekend, showing the house at a drop of the hat, ect. They eventually ended listing with the same realtor we did and sold a week after putting it on the market.

They wound up paying about in much as interest on the place in the four months it didn't sell as they did in commission fees. Plus we both made MORE money selling through a realtor than we could selling outright.

And I only had to put about 2 hours of paperwork into the deal. That's it.

I was working 60 hours a week at the time, my wife was finishing up a Dr. of Pharmacy program. And we were in the process of moving to another state.

The help of a realtor doing all the busy work behind the scenes was invaluable.

And we actually came out ahead of what the FSBO's were.

seriously though where do you go to get a half a million dollar car financed?

edmunds says there is a 2 to 3 year wait on these how did he get on the top of the list?

if he has financed every vehicle he owns he is in a world of hurt when he falls in sales slump...

although in a lot of parts its well known that realtors mostly drive leased cars and are heavily in debt.

That car is quite the beast. I think it can do the 1/4 mile in 11's....with the A/C on :D
If I was making that kind of bank, I'd buy a nice car too...but not one that nice, I'd invest the rest in real estate!

We seem to do well enough to get bumped into a higher tax bracket...sucks.

Edit-And I vote fool. My wife gave me a hard time for buying a $900 road bike (normally a $1500 road bike) this week.

For saving you a SH!TLOAD of work. That's what.
  1. I bought the house next door without a damn realtor.
  2. Sold it without a stinkin' realtor in 2 1/2 months.
  3. My dad sold his home FSBO at its first open house.
  4. House next door sold FSBO in 10 days with NO open house!
  5. Co-worker is locked into 3 month contract with useless fvcking agency, and no sale in 2 months...
  6. Many other homes have sold in this neighborhood quickly by owner... I LOVE IT!
I wish there was a national registry of homes for sale accross the country, that was accessable to everybody for free. It could be part of a database no more complicated than a phone directory, and updated via tax or title recordings.

It's great that it worked out for you but the facts are that houses sell faster and for more with a realtor than without, perhaps you didn't get all you could have when you sold your house and your bragging about saving 6% commision when in fact you lost 10% in not pricing your house accordingly.

What was the average selling price of those homes?

If I list a car in a newspaper, I'll get 10x the number of interested people in a $2,000 car than I will a $20,000 car.

Same thing with houses. It's a lot easier to move a $90,000 home than it is a $250,000 home in the same regional area.

Plus, you have a lot of people moving to a completely different area, that know nothing about the place, and don't have time to dick around and go FSBO. They find a realtor in that area, give the realtor their list of wants and how much they are want to spend, and set up a weekend to go tour. The realtor does the homework, finds good places to show, and shows the homes. I find something I like, I tell my realtor that I want to make an offer and he/she does the work. We come to an agreement with the seller and the rest is done until it's closing time.

It's even easier if I'm a seller.

You are a handyman by trade right? Why are you in buisness? Because someone recognizes that another person can do the job better, in quicker time, and for less hassle than they can do it themselves.

That's what a realtor does for A LOT of people. Does the job quicker, cheaper, and with a lot less hassle than I could do it myself.

Yeh, your neighborhood might be an exception.

Most aren't.

They do a service that's worth something but NOT thousands of dollars worth!

Give us citizens a national MLS, and you'll see these "services" being sold for what they're really worth.
