I built my new rig at the end of May and finally got it running really nicely and all, but I'm having a bit of trouble with a stick of RAM. Unfortunately the RMA period is already up but I don't even know if it's bad or not.
Here are the stats of the rig:
AMD Athlon 2000+
80GB WDD Special Edition 7200RPM 8mb cache
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
Abit Kr7A mobo
1 gig of Crucial DDR (I'm pretty sure it's PC 2100)
GF4 Ti4600 (Gainward)
Well here's the problem:
On the first few boot-ups I had the 1st and 2nd ram slots filled with 2 512 mb sticks and upon boot up only 512mb was detected. I figured I must have a bad stick of ram but to test I moved the ram (which was strangely difficult to insert into the slot, only that stick though, and no, it wasn't/isn't in upside down) to the 2nd slot. Still a no go. I tried the 4th slot out of desperation and to my suprise my mobo's ram check picked up the correct 1 gig of ram. But the next boot-up after that it went back to the 512 reading.
Now that's not the strangest thing either. Sometimes Soldier of Fortune 2 will display the correct amount of ram reading in the console pop-up on start-up but other times it won't. All the while my ram check at boot-up hasn't picked up the second ram stick since that one time.
I'm confused, my ram check doesn't pick up all 1024mb of ram but some of my apps do?
Any way to check and see if this ram stick is actually bad or if my mobo is just wacky?
