Is my monitor going?

I've been noting a problem with my monitor over the past few months that is starting to get distressingly worrisome. Any shape on the monitor, especially black or darkly coloured objects, casts a series of small ghostly shadows to the left of it. It's almost like the effect you get from motion blurring only its banded instead of smooth. Often this is not really noticeable but as of late it seems to be getting worse. I have tried adjusting quite a few different settings in the monitor's OSD without much success, including DeGaussing, Landing, and Convergence. I also notice some yellowish fringing at the very extreme left edge of the screen image, very much light the purple fringing you see on cameras, this I can correct with some small adjustment to the convergence but it has no effect on the ghosting. Now I know I should test my monitor out on another video card before posting here to make sure it is my monitor, but its fairly awkward and I don't have one handy at the moment. I have thought that perhaps some sort of interference is causing this, perhaps around the monitor or cable, I'll have to look into that. I can't take a picture of this problem, it's too subtle to capture, plus you can't really take detailed pictures of a monitor. So instead I've tried to mimic the effect in photoshop. The effect in the image below is a little more exaggerated than it is on my monitor. Has anyone seen this type of ghosting problem before? I sure hope it isn't a problem with the monitor as I spent a pretty penny on this thing only about a year and a 1/2 ago 🙁 I can't remember what the warranty on it is, but I bought it essentially OEM so...

Simulation of the effect

Oh yeah the monitor is a Sony G520 21". And the video card I'm using is a rather old GeForce 1 DDR. One thing I have been doing is keeping my monitor on essentially 24/7 but I've set power management to shut off the monitor, or put it in standby mode, after 10 mins of inactivity. Could this be an issue?
