is my mb dying

my parents have the WinFast K7NCR18GM (integrated VGA) in the computer for office usage. Today when I started the computer the motitor didn't want to turn on, all I saw was a black screen+ I didn't even hear the HD check. . After i turned the monitor on manually all I saw was a "sleeping sign" for few seconds and then the monitor turned off again. I tired different monitor and I saw a "No signal " sign. So it wasn't the monitor. Then I decide to check the HD on different computer and it worked just fine. So it wasn't the the HD either. Later on I put in the PCI video card in the computer but still the same case, then I put in the AGP video card and still all I saw was black screen and my monitor on sleeping mode. So I thought that it must be either Mobo or the power supply. I clered the CMOS and still no change. Eventually I tried the different power supply and still computer didn't want to boot. So my q is : is my parent's mobo dead ??!! What else can i do?!


Any help appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i also tried removing RAM, still nothing..

Please anyone, I'm desparate for any clue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

where you removed the ram did you try a different stick? If not then it could be the ram,CPU or mobo.

my parent's ram is just fine i tried them in my computers and they work just fine!!

Then I would try taking everything out of the system and try running just the mobo,CPU,video and memory. It could be the mobo or CPU still.

So you can't boot even to BIOS? You've tried swapping vid cards with a known good one and you've tried swapping the PSU and even the RAM. Even if CPU were bad you should still get something on the screen. Sounds like the same problem I'm having with my ASUS A7N8X (see my thread today). I don't know if there is any kind of POST (Power On Self Test) system on that motherboard that will help you diagnose the problem. It may be that you need a new motherboard and CPU.

I've got another system running an old Athlon 900 that is doing something similar but I can get it to boot simply by pressing the reset button a couple times after powering up....not sure what that problem but that mobo has always been a little flakey.

i guess my BIOS just went dead..everthing else seems to be working fine ( i checked evertyhing except the CPU- but it didn't show any signs of dying so i thinks it's still ok).....
any ideas how to make sure it's my mobo, before i get the new one?!

to be absolutely frank that's how my parents had to boot their computer for the past week untill it completely died on Friday.....

If the CPU is dead the system won't boot you will still get the no video signal. Have you tried taking the heatsink off the CPU and looking it over(the CPU)? Try unplugging the system, pulling the BIOS battery out of the mobo and letting it sit for a while. Then put the battery back in and powering it up. Or maybe try another BIOS battery if you have one. Can't quite remember the problem a dead BIOS battery causes but I know the system might not function right without a good battery.

unfortunately i don't have time to do it during the week cause i gat lots of exams in skool + 2 parties on friday and saturday evening so I'll try it on saturday and update then...

btw,

I think that my cpu is ok cause the fan is spinning and it didn't show any signs of dying whileas the Mobo did. Anyway after i try the battery thingy I 'll update

The fan is seperate from the CPU.... lol.

Try the CPU on another machine if you can.

If it doesn't work, then you know it's the CPU.

If not, it's either your power supply or the mobo.
