Is my maxtor HD on quiet mode?

The 80 gig maxtor that came with my dell computer is really really quiet compared to my 30 gig maxtor. I read something about quiet mode but could not find anything on where its configured. I hear quiet mode can sacrifice performace so I want to remove it. Where can I find the settings? I really dont care if the hard drive is noisy.
 
Thanks a bunch..going to try it... before I do this, anyone know how much difference it will make? 1.8ghz p4 256k..256ddr..80 gig Maxtor DM 7.2k....gf mx 400..IM doing this because im feeling this machine to be sluggish and looking for improvements.
