Is my maxtor drive a fluid bearing drive?

I purchased a maxtor 80gb 7200 rpm ata133 harddrive several months ago. I don't remember the info on the barcode or info sticker cause I sent that in for the rebate. But heres the model number that the drive goes by "Maxtor 6L080L4". I thought these drives were quiet, but this one is kinda noisy. It almost sounds like the old IBM deskstar series. And when the computer turns off, it makes a really loud sound as it turns off, like shutting off something really powerful. I had a chance to try out my uncle's diamondmax plus 8 today and it was much more quiet. Thanks for the help.

Edit, the model number on the harddrive label is D740X-6L. Its a 2mb buffer version.

I had one of those drives too, but I've recently tried to RMA it due to excessive noise. According to the specs on the Maxtor website, it does in fact have a fluid bearing drive. Unfortunately, since my 740DX was an OEM drive I wasn't able to RMA it.

I have one of those DiamondMax Plus 8 drives too and I found it surprisingly silent given the fact that it was so thin as compared to the DiamondMax Plus 9s or other 3.5" drives.

I have the same drive in my system. While I would rank my system, overall, as above average noise, I don't hear this hard drive at all.
