I have a KT7-RAID board that I believe to be bad. I have a few issues
that I will explain separately below.
I am running a dual boot machine with Windows ME and Windows 2000.
Abit KT7-RAID
T-Bird 900
256MB PC133 RAM
ATI All-in-Wonder 128
(2) 45GB IBM 75GXP RAID 0
Netgear FA310TX NIC
Aureal Vortex Sound Card
USR 56k Win Modem
Toshiba DVD
Iomega 12X10X32X CDRW
Opti-UPS 420E
3Com Home Connect USB Camera
Iomega Zip100USB
Altec Lansing ADA-305 (USB Speakers)
Umax 1220U USB Scanner
My first indication that there is a problem is that in Windows ME much of the hardware in using the same IRQs. On my Original installation most of the hardware was sharing IRQ 7(Video, network, modem, audio and USB and Raid controllers). I reinstalled Windows and now the hardware is mostly split between IRQ 5(PCI IRQ steering, sound, network, and USB controller) and IRQ 11(PCI IRQ steering, Raid Controller, and modem). In Windows 2000 most of this hardware is on IRQ 11.
My next indication is that in Windows ME every time my Zip drive is detected Windows performs and illegal operation in an unspecified file and locks up. I have tried connecting the drive to each of the four USB ports and have tried removing everything from the startup (msconfig), as well as ending all tasks before plugging in the drive and still have not been able to correct this problem. I know that the drive is fine as it worked with my previous motherboard and will work on another machine. I have also had some difficulty with my USB scanner intermitently not being detected.
I have had a problem with my network card working one minute and not the next. I have verified that the card is not the problem by installing it in another computer with no problems. I believe that the issue has something to do with IRQ sharing. I have also tried multiple cables.
I also have a problem with the machine rebooting every time the power management tries to kick in. I have updated by system Bios to: 12/15/2000-8363-686A-6A6LMA19C-WW and
the Raid Controller Bios to: v1.0.3b1. I have the fail-safe defaults loaded
in the BIOS and have all of the newest motherboard drivers. My driver
versions are:
AGP Driver 4.04
IDE Busmaster 2.1.50
VIA INF Driver 1.02b
IRQ Routing Driver 13a
USB Filter Driver 1.08.
I have updated the drivers on all of my peripherals to the latest certified drivers available.
If you can offer me any insight or solutions to the problems I would be
very appreciative.
