Is my KDS Avitron monitor dying? Please look.

Occassionally I get a crackling sound and a short burst of "snow" across my monitor when it first powers up. As an experiment I've left the monitor power on even when I shut the computer off and I haven't noticed it since doing that.

Has anyone experienced this before?

I have used KDS for CRTs for many years now. I have seen some models do this, but not recently. Try plugging your PC and Monitor directly to the wallout (with ground). See if it happens now. If it doesn't, get a new (good) surge protector. What if you disconnect the VGA cable and power it on and off? If the problem goes away it might be the video card. Try it on another computer to see if it follows. Check KDS's website for any support questions.

Last option. Call or email KDS for your concerns.

Good Luck!

It's plugged into a 1000VA UPS right now. I felt I could rule out cabling and the video card since it doesn't seem to do it if I don't power the monitor off. I'm going to continue to keep an eye on it and I will try powering it up with the monitor cable disconnected.
