Hi All,

I'm putting together a new build.

I have a Core i7 920 cpu @ stock speed
with a Noctua NH-U12P SE 1366 cooler with both fans on it.
And my Idle cpu temp is around 55c. Is this normal? Or do I need to regrease the cpu?

I'd say remount it. 55C at idle is pretty high. What's your ambient temperatures?

I idle in the 36-41c range... varies a degree or two or three by core...

stock speeds, Coolermaster V8

I had to reseat my cooler 3 times before getting a good one...

Here's the info direct from the bios on my Intel dx58SO Motherboard

Processor Thermal Margin: 55C
IOH Temperature: 49C
Motherboard Ambient Temperature: 33C
Voltage Regulator Temperature: 46C

Use Core Temp or Real Temp to find your temperatures. Don't rely on the BIOS.

Does people here still believe that the thermal sensors in Intel CPU's are usefull for idle temps?
I am flabbergasted...

(Hint: The sensors are made for determing when to start throtteling the CPU and thus works best close to thermal maximum and gets worse and worse the further away from maxiuam thermal temps and thus not an accurate temperature tool.)
