when i turn on my computer, it starts making this clicking noise
then it told me to put in a system didsk

Well, stick in a system disk then! If you can read your data it would be wise to start planning a backup method.

Making clicking sounds is not a good thing at all. You may now have bad sectors, picked up a virus, or have some important corrupt system files.

If you have any important data on there, the best thing would be to try and copy it before the HD does finally bite the dust.

Every hard drive manufacturer makes diagnostic tools to test your drive.... visit the website of your manuffacturer and look for those diagnostics tool... they do a very good job in detecting hard drive failures and are required by the manufacturer if you want to return the drive

Yes, most of the time a clicking hard drive is indicitive of a dying hard drive, which means if you can back up then now is the time to do it, because soon enough you won't be able to.
