Is my hardware consifugration hurting my performance? NEED HELP....

I have a Thunderbird 1.1ghz, KT7 raid, 512mb pc133 cas2, 42gb IBM, HP 10x burner, Pioneer 115 DVD, and a Geforce 2 Ultra. Quake and Hitman run awesome. When I try to play Unreal Tournement, Giants, or worse... RUNE, my computer slugs down to a crawl. I have the Detonator 3 drivers installed and direct x 8. It was doing it before I installed Dx8 so I dont think its that. I have to reformat my HD because of problems with software, and Ive been changing stuff within my Award Modular BIOS v6.00pg. Not sure what the hell is causing this slowdown. It never use to do it before I formated my HD. Now that everything is back on, RUNE, UT and seemingly everything that uses direct 3d is slowing down severely. Any suggestions???

All i can think of right now, is to change and try a different driver version for your GeForce. Your hardware config is definately not the problem. This is a software/driver issue.

Try loading the factory-set values for your BIOS. I think F7 is used for that (within the BIOS menu) in Award-based systems. Read the bottom of the BIOS screen to be sure.

And if by playing with the BIOS you mean flashing it.. reflash the old image back.

I've heard of a lot of the same problems with DirectX8 so that could be it. Uninstalling it and going back to DX7a is not so easy to do (if it can be done at all). Reinstalling Windows is then the only (and most painfull) option i think.
