Is My Hard Drive Dead?

I plugged it in yesterday to try something and it did something different this time.

Before the windows logo came up it gave me a message saying my hal.dll file in the system32 folder was missing or corrupt

<windowsroot>\system32\hal.dll

When I unplug it and boot the computer normally withought the problem hard drive connected it doesn't give me the error.

Does this help narrow down the problem?
