Heh, the poll results are pretty evenly matched, guess no one is taking it seriously.

I took the poll question seriously. The poll question makes no mention of "tomorrow." It's a certainty that California will experience a 6.0+ quake at some point in the future.

I hope it's a 9.5 quake, as long as no one gets hurt. And, as long as they have really cool footage on television.

edit: by the way, according to my calculations, the next 6.0+ earthquake on Earth will occur sometime in the next 4 days. But, a 6.0+ quake in Southern California won't be until late November or early December. I put the date around Nov 30 +/- 4 days.

(I'll be a God if I'm right, if I'm wrong, you'll all forget it.)

Hysterically stocking massive amounts of water, food and survival supplies is overkill for a So Cal earthquake. A few gallons of bottled water and an average cupboard full of food is plenty. Maybe keep some cash on hand and gasoline for your generator if you have one. Keep a flashlight by the bed to shine on your GF in the middle of the night and ask in a panicked voice "was than earthquake I just felt?!?!"

When the 1994 Northridge 6.7 earthquake hit the only thing I wished I had was a full tank of gas. I was working for a local newspaper at the time and only had enough gas to drive around taking photos for half a day.

The local grocery stores opened up that morning and sold perishable foods and other necessities at the door. Massive amounts of bottled water was available for free on street corners the next day. I lost electrical at home, but it was back on in less than 24 hrs.

The only people who had real, immediate survivability problems were those who were in buildings that collapsed. Tell your girlfriend to relax and enjoy the So Cal weather.

Why the fuck do people get all worked up over earthquakes here in Southern California? Your GF didn't grow up here did she? My generation has been nothing short of let down since elementary school with all these huge earthquake predictions. OMFG THE BIG ONE IS COMING. not.

My brother-in-law is a contractor with the USGS.

They get tons "predictions" every day.

One of these predictions will eventually be "right". But there is no way to predict which prediction it will be. ;)

Well, it will hit eventually. ;)

Also, the poll question is different than the thread title question, so the results are pretty useless.

Anyone who realized that the question the OP thought he was asking isn't the same as the question he actually asked. I answered his question, not what he thought he was asking. If he wanted his question to refer to tomorrow only, then he's one eight letter word away from asking the question he meant to ask.

Going the dmcowen route I see.

No, I was actually playing the odds. There are 130 or so 6+ earthquakes in an average year. I expect that the majority of people don't realize that. So, in 2 days, when another 6+ hits in some country where no one cares, I can claim that I was correct on the first part of my prediction. That's a 50% rate of correct predictions - far greater than Dave ever got. Then, if I'm within 2 weeks on my Cali prediction (since it's far enough into the future, people will easily forgive me a couple weeks), that's just icing on the cake.
Oh crap. I'm giving away all my secret prediction methods.

Update: No event yet. But we are getting close to the far edge of the prediction. Just to be safe, I have shut myself and my SO in the Earthquake Room. We have 10 days worth of Evian, and 25 pounds of Xtreme Flavor Cheddar Goldfish.

Good luck to all of you in the Socal area. Hopefully I get to post again.
