Is my Gateway slowing down internet access?

Sluggo

Lifer
I have an old P-133 running as a gateway, and since getting everything hooked up, the other machines seem to have their internet access slowed considerably. Will a faster gateway help?

Expanding on my set-up a bit:

Cable modem to a P-133 with 2 NIC then going to a 10/100 switch, then to 2 other comps, one is a P-III 550, the other is a P-III 800.

Gotta know...

Win98SE
1 D-link DE-220 ISA
1 Linksys LNEPCI II
64RAM
1gig 5400 HDD

The only things it runs in the background are:
Explorer
Systray
ZoneAlarm
Sygate LAN software

Yes. IMHO, your gateway is slowing down your connection, probably by quite a bit.

Try plugging in one of your other machines diect to the cable modem and see how much......

FWIW

Suggestion, kill win98se.

Try a linux distribution and use IP masquerade. You'll never regret it.

And that machine would be overkill for a gateway.

One really nice gateway software that I use fits on a floppy and runs in memory.

Linux router project. and there are many others.
