This is my first build and I cant figure out whats causing my new comp to crash.

If I leave it on overnight I wake up to either it wating at the password to enter Windows on bootup or on rare occasions everything looks fine in Windows but when I go to click on something it does nothing but give me a "beep" from the comp...I cant even CNTRL+ALT+DEL out of Windows.

Im assuming its either my CPU or RAM.
How can I figure out whats causing this?
 
Not overclocking.
Everything is running at stock

RAM is Buffalo fire stix 2 1Gb 800Mhz (voltage set to 2.12V)
Stock HSF running at max speed...CPU runs cool
MB is Intel Badaxe2

 
Im using win2k pro with all updates

I have run prime 95...all night with no errors

Is there anything special I need to do to detect errors its not finding?

run memtest 86..this is the best way to confirm your ram is ok..I recently had my ram at 450mhz at 2.0 and was getting weird issues with dvd burns...I had run a few passes of memtest86

went back and ran memtest86 1.70 and after 16passes of test5..I got errors

I try to run 50 passes of test5 and if there are no errors and 1 error is too many...ram is ok

BTW I ram winmemtest(which some says is better)..I ra n this for about hr with no errors..so it did not pickup the errors at that point and P95 blend was ok as well.....so memtest86 is best test IMHO for ram

Ill try memtest later after I re-install a floppy drive and see what happens.
If it fails ill try again at 2.2V

you vcan burn to cd as an .iso
 
I ran 350 passes of memtest 1.70 test 5 with no errors.
I have no idea whats going on here

Is my RAM just overheating and becoming unstable only then, or is my CPU not able to run stable at stock speeds...how do I test for that?

Ive run every stress test I found and Im not getting any errors

Should I set a fan blowing across my RAM?

Please help me figure this out
 
Why do you simply assume it's your ram/mobo/cpu ? Why couldn't it be your harddrive ? Do you get a bsod ? When you wake up, and windows looks perfectly fine, is your HD running ?

Correct me if im wrong, but arent those D9's?

You might need to set voltage to 2.2V D9's like a lot of voltage.
 
I forgot to add I have set the voltage on the RAM to 2.18V

HDD seem to working perfectly.

This problem seems to happening less than before but it is still happening.

I wonder if my RAM is OK but overheating causing it to become unstable and coldbooting my PC...I dont know Im new to this so have no experience to help me figure out whats going on, it may be software related for all I know

BTW I just got done with 5 hours of ORTHOS...no problems

If it doesnt fail under memtest could I still have defective RAM?

I think Ill put a fan blowing across the RAM and leave the PC running for a few days to see if it fixes the problem or not.
 
People so quickly point out hardware problems without thinking about software problem. From what i can see everything on your system is fine. You dont' have crap hardware either. Could just be a driver issue or something like that. Make sure that you tell the system not to reboot when you get a blue screen. There will be a error code. Go to technet.microsoft.com and type in that error code. I am not promising you this is going to give you a clear answer but it could. Also if you get find anything there then google on that error code. You will be surprised what you can find sometimes.
