Is my cpu unstable?

i have a 3000 venice overclocked to 2.56GHz, with 1.64V. While playing the game serious sam for about 1.5+ hour straight , it randomly froze. Yesterday this happened, and then i lowered the clock of my video card, then loaded the game again and all was fine. Also when it froze, it made a repetive sound, that sounded like i was clicking on a tab. Do you all think my cpu or maybe even my video card could be the main cause for this?

My gpu is at 472/1.1 clock...

edit: Also my cpu was able to benchmark in 3dmark06.

Those temps seem really low, seeing that your CPU needs 1.64V... Do you use WC or an aftermarket heatsink?

EDIT: GPU temps? What graphics card do you have actually?

I have an aftermarket heatsink, a thermaltake venus hsf. My gpu idle temp is 47-49C . I'm really not sure what the load temps is. I'll go and find oout.

I have an eVGA 7800gt.

its a 7800gt. I checked the load temp, and its at 65C.

edit: 73C actually. When i close the game it goes down to 65C.

That's very good as well... How does your comp do with other games?

EDIT: BTW It doesn't freeze anymore now?

Hey i checked my cpu temp right now , and after minimizing the game, my cpu temp is at 46C right now (cpu usage is also at 46C right now).

I just played through serious sam 2 on the part it froze, and i was able to play without any freeze. Do you think the reason it freezes is because of playing the game for a long time?

Must have been solved by downclocking your graphics card then... Normally, temps rise a lot in the first minutes, and after that they are about stable... However, the heat could have been building up... An hour and a half of gaming is actually pretty stressing for your comp, especially if it's SS 2... Does your case have a good ventilation?

not really, i only have 2 intake fans. one on side and one on back, both are blowing air in. My power supply blows out warm air though. Do you think i should make the fan on the back of my case an outtake (take out air, instead of blowing in air) ? My system temp at max is around 42C, at idle(no stress) its 34C .

LOL :p Yeah of course... The side fan needs to be an intake (no room for a fan in the front?), and the rear one has to be outtake... That's the scheme for best airflow... :)

alright thanks , i'll do that when i finish playing SS2, or my pc freezes ;) . Im also planning on cutting a circles on the side of my case, so i can add a fan to it :D
