Hi, I have a Pentium 4 Prescott 2.8G (P4-2.8E)
along with a 450w psu, Asus P4P800e-Deluxe
I have 4~5 case fans, 1x harddrive fans, 1x front bay fan, 1x vga silencer, 1 extra fan for psu

Asus Probe 2.2301 , cpu/case temp

most of the time 43C/44C

coolest 36C/42C
hottest 51C/55C (loaded with some cpu intense program for testing, for 1 hour)

is it running just fine? or a bit hotter than urs?

faye, your P4 at it's hottest is still at least 10 degrees cooler than my AMD rig, I've got it in an non-air conditioned room and so I'd say you're okay

On a side note, do you know w/ your system temp is? W/ 4-5 case fans it should be very low unless the cooling in your rig is poor or fan is setup wrong. I only ask because I have one 80mm intake fan, one 80mm exhaust fan and one fan w/ my PS.

i have 1 bay fan(3 little fans)
1 coolermaster buildin fan (80mm)
both for intake

2x 80mm for exhaust.
1x for psu(the psu itself has 2 fans build in already)

i am wondering if i should put a fan mounted near the ram area. not to blow the ram but easier for the air flow from front to the back.

it is really hot wor... if i am running it at 2.8G, can i decrease the vcore to lower the psu temp? u know what i mean?

um, there's no such thing as a p4p800-e deluxe... from at least from what i know... only a p4p800 and p4p800-deluxe hehehe...

anyway...

the cpu temp that you see is probably lower than what it really is...

tests have shown that the asus boards report temperatures about 10C's lower than what they really are....

your cpu is running closer to 70C's but that's normal considering it's a prescott

I put a thermal sensor right near the CPU core and Asus probe is about 4~6 degrees lower. Those temps seem just fine for a prescott. It's a darn shame you didn't get some good ram because the 2.8e is a very good overclocker...

whcih do u consider good ram?
I can put this ram to my other PC and buy another pair...

and ya, it is a P4P800E-Deluxe, happen in asus website too... not very new, but the latest 865PE board

I would recommend OCZ Gold 4000 or Corsiar 3200XL. Both can reach 250 at good timings. I have seen some 2.8e hit up to 257. I am selling some OCZ Gold 4400 if you are looking for some really good ram that will go up and beyond 250...

now i am running it cas 2-3-4-5 @ @200fsb

i believe it is very good, i know comparing to cosair or ocz is still long way to go... but according to the price i paid, i am very satisfied

GreatBarracuda, the Zalman 7000cu(all cu) is not noise at all.
even at full speed(2400rpm) still couldn't hear it if i close the case, and even if i put my ear in, i can only hear a bit... may be i am deaf or something, but if u want quite hsf, i recommend this... but thsi one is quite heavy though...

talking about cooling performance, i don't know, haven't tried any others yet.. but i definitely want to try something(not that 7000cu sucks) by coolermaster also. called "Hyper 6(KHC-V81)". it uses heatpipe six of them..
my hsf has blind spot, this one doesn't. but i am imagine the weight will be even heavier than 7000cu.

Just a question as a newbie here...........
How can your cpu temps possibly be lower than your case temps?
I have an Asus MB and my temps are 6°C HIGHER than what Asus Probe is reading.
I ahve used a laser thermometer to confirm this as well as doing research on the web to the inaccuracy of Asus MB temps. I would suggest that you search the web and you will see that I am right about this. Just to be on safety's sake, add 6°C to your cpu temps.

I've got the same cpu in a enlight 8950 server case loaded, using the stock intel hs/fan on a tyan s5101 mb /w 1 gig ram 3500
case 36c cpu 48 idle
case 37c cpu 54 loaded
I don't overclock and I'll live on the 3 year waranty although I've never tried to use one. Runs stable for video encoding for 4 to 6 hours at a time. No missed frames etc.

cpu usage under task manager is 100% used(System Idle Process = 00)

Squirtle632, i don't know, i heard so many posts about asus's board reports ~6C lower than it is.. i do agree.
sidenotes, case temperature is not base on the heat from cpu, psu also..
my psu(450w) is very very hot. i've put an extra fan for it, but still very hot.
i can feel the heat from the back of the case, hot..!!

edit:, now my vcore is 1.376v(at 200fsb, 2.8e)
when i underclock it to 2.0Ghz, it says 1.477v

Hi Faye. Your prescott is actually running at VERY good temps. I saw a 3.4E benchmark shot at 78C under full load using CPUBurn and ambient case temp of 20C.

To your question, I run my 2.8C oc'ed to 3.4 at default auto of 1.52V. The most important volt mod was with the DDR at 2.65V just so my RAID controller was kept stable.

KEEP YOUR GEIL. It's an awesome memory! Your system rocks as it is. I used to have the same mobo and I loved it.

I'm curious, what are you system benchies?

The southbridge raid controller is very sensitive to non-stock frequencies that I have to have at least 2.65v to the DDR and keep my agp/pci ratio fixed in BIOS.

vcore default for 2.8c is 1.52v.

the bench of 78C was from somebody who ran cpuburn and they kept their case temp at 20c. I'm not sure how long they ran their test. your zalman setup at your temps should last your cpu for a long time.

my cpu temps are 38c idle/43c playing ut2004 for 4 hours straight
my case temp is maintained at 30c.

again, your temps are fine and your geil memory are awesome. our system is very good for the next 2 years

i know ur hs has 3 heatpipe., i want to change my hsf if ur is performing well.

currently i don't need speed, so i underclock it.. i put it to 2.0G and i have A/C on for my room., the lower temp i got is 25C

the heat exhuating from the heat actually heaten the room... so i rather keep the room cold...

i'm a custom systems builder for my part-time business and sp-94 or 947u is my choice for my gaming clients.

since i'm an overclocker, i matched it with the tornado connected to a fan controller or else it gets VERY loud, but i've built systems wherein i used the silent 92 and it works great. you can't hear anything and the temps are very good.

for my main rig, the next item i'm considering is changing the psu that has the straight fan design (front/back fans) because i currently have a bottom/back fans. it gives a "shotgun effect" to better take out the air from the inside in a straight flow. i've seen aspire and fortron make models with this configuration.

oh well, like i said, i've put an extra fan for my psu..

my psu is bottom/back like psu, so i put a fan to make a straight flow like you said... but i didn't take out the bottom fan ... i feel more fans mean more air flow and more air flow means more air out.
