Is my CPU fried?

Attached are four pics.

I have an Asus P2B-DS (dual, scsi) running dual 800's. Recently, I've run into a few situations that seem like a burnt out CPU to me:

1. System lock, reboot caused memory count to freeze randomly.
2. (same) system lock, reboot caused different POST point lockups
3. (different) system lock, reboot caused no boot at all. no video.

I removed the processors and I am noticing what I would consider to be a bubbling or at least discoloring. Thanks to my nice digicam, I took some pics of the CPU.

Cooling was functional, as usual, as it has been for two years now.

EDIT: I also noticed that there is some sort of fingernail-sized crack or something in the CPU. Is it possible it was caused by heat?

EDIT 2 : I am posting this from the same machine with only the other processer running. I believe, in retrospect, that they had different stepping. I am not totally sure of this, however.

It looks nuked alright! Those first 2 pics look like you spooged on it :Q 😛 and WTF is that on the upper right corner of the core? It looks like part of a bug sticking out of the spooge! BTW the crack shows up clearly. In the final analysis, if thesystem is running stable now then no doubt remains, though looking at the pics I'd say there is no doubt anyways 😉

I just looked at pic 2 upclose again and I swear that's an ANT trapped in the paste on the upper right corner of the core :Q

I think that's burnt heat transfer liquid. Ugh.

I don't want to have to buy new stuff. I mean, it'll be cool and all. But, I don't want to have to!

*sob*

yup... looks pretty dead, although the burnt thermal transfer wouldn't be a clear indication, but the discoloration does seem to point in that direction. Plus what's happening to ur system seems to point in that direction as well. I'd say clean it up, dress it up, stick it in and try the 2nd CPU by itself and see what happens.

pic 2 is (no disrespect) quite funny. I agree with dapunisher, that is seriously some unfortunate ant. he may have been the root
of all your problems, having worked his way to the core, dying and setting off some sort of chain reaction with the thermal paste.
formic acid anyone?

damn ants are everywhere!

I knocked it off. I really think it was just paste. Maybe not? 🙂
